Hi, Uncle Mickey. I'm 54 -- are we the only "oldsters" doing this LapBand thing? ("I'm not OLD, I was at WOODSTOCK, for heaven's sake!") I'm in Eureka, and I'm also researching the LapBand. So far, I like what I've found out.

Must be! I saw some 13 yr olds on some websites! can you believe that?

i just spoke with a coordinator in LA that told me that Dr. Garza will do this surgery in Montery Mx for 8,000 including airfare AND the nurse i spoke with does the fills free in beverly Hills and would even come to bakersfield to do them Free. What do you think?

I am waitin for her to email me the info. I actually got the number off of this forum but can't find the place where I saw it.

have you heard antything about Dr. garza and Ochoa hospital?

I believe I that have heard of Dr. Garza -- I know there are some fine bariatric surgeons in Mexico. Check out the website at obesityhelp.com, if you haven't already, and see if you can find anything there about him and his practice. It seems to me the reports I read about him were good.

Regards,

P.S. I was born in Bakersfield. Lucky old Bakersfield!

Does anyone know the lowdown on Anne Marie Tiesi? Someone posted some really damaging stuff on her on this forum and, fair or not, i am afraid to use Dr. Garza because of what they wrote about her. She is with, or runs Beligheter.com. and is the one setting up surgeries with Dr. Garza in Monterey, Mex. at the OCA Hospital.

This is too serious to take chances with but I will feel awful if what was said is not true and I reject it based on their post.

Hello Mickey

There is so much "lowdown" on AnneMarie but I won't go there. Please beware, she will charge you for her services!

You have many doctor options...Dr. Sanchez(www.ready4achange.com) and Dr. Rumbault in Monterrey Mx. Dr. Ortiz and Dr. Kuri in Tiajuana Mx. These are the only Mexico' doctors I would recomend. Most of these surgeons have simular services for about 8K.

Personaly I would not let any nurse provide a fill for me. In Ventura there is Dr. Billy and in San Jose there is Dr. McKeen(www.southbaybariatrics.com). Dr. McKeen has a Utah office and will preform surgery for 14K there. The cost of Ca hospitals is greater than in Utah.

Good luck, research, and welcome to LBT

I am really looking at Dr. Aceves in Mexicali. I am monitoring two forums comprised of his patients. He does the surgery in a hospital as opposed to the clinics I understand Dr. Kuri uses. Dr. Kuri has done more lapbands but Dr. Aceves has performed more surgeries overall. Dr. Kuri is more conveniently located for me. This is just stuff I am digging up as I go.

Hello everyone,

My name is Patty and I live in Westminster. Just 15 minutes from Disneyland. Doing my research and just got the "green" light from insurance if this is what I really want. Now I need support.... the pros and cons for this venture. You guys rock and I'd love to stroll Downtown Disney with any one of you.

Hello,

I'm in Santa Barbara and having band done on tues by the great Dr. Billy in Ventura. Everything so far has been so great. Attitude is everything and the whole office is wonderful. Price is half what it is in SB. Heard Dr. here has only done a "few". Scary. I am so ready and counting the hours down. I am paying out of pocket, did not want to wait, but have medically necessity due to Total Knee Replacements with 6 revisions etc. Also having gallbladder removed due to stones just found out.

Soooo looking forward to tues, having a hard time in the waiting period...

Pretty prepared with home liquids etc, but working on more so I can keep busy. With holiday I want to be comfortable with family being around.

Wish me luck.....on my way........

Dear tztmama,

I feel ready, but I am looking for things to do. Did some gardening, it is so beautiful today here. My husband went golfing and I am thrilled to have the day alone. I can just stay in my sweats and go from thing to thing as I chose. I may even read a bit. I keep having to remember I can not eat. I have all the liauids and wonder sometimes if I could be geting too much Protein from them. I am drinking Water.< /p>

the waiting is no fun right now. But I shall endure.....

Watching the clock tick tick tick...

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
