I have recently deceided that I am going to have weight loss surgery. A couple of my doctors are pushing for me to get the lapband, which seems safer, but I am just not so sure rather I want to risk having that done over the RNY (scared I won't lose weight for some reason). I'm looking for support and encouragement from people who have had the lap band done. Please HELP!!! Also, I live in San Diego, and I'm wondering if anyone out there knows of any great surgeons out my way who perform lap band surgeries? THANX!

I live in Temecula. Good luck with your decision. I personally chose to go to TJ for mine with Dr Ortiz and am very happy with my decision - I'm down 18lbs as of today and am 13 days out. Keep us posted! :)

Hello

I haven't been banded yet , but I will be as of next Thursday 9/15/2005. Im nervous and would love to talk to you & other lapbanders. You just had it done?! You seem so upbeat already makes me feel better. I babysit my great neice who is 3 and have only given myself four days before I take her back ! Im scared about not being able to keep up with her?! To be honest right now Im scared about everything. Will I lose enough weight , will I survive just liquids , will I be hungry?! ect... the list goes on ! Im also going on a cruise a month after surgery!! I let my Dr. talk me into doing it before the cruise. I of course wanted to pig out everyday on the cruise and even up to the cruise! So Im kinda glad he did talk me into that. Im already eating everyday everything bad until I bust counting down until next Thursday! I actually have a list of foods I must eat before surgery in case I can't ever eat them again ! I know thats bad , but I can't help it!!

Well I ain't gonna talk you into or out of it, but for me personally I wouldn't choose anyone else! Dr. Ortiz & staff was absolutely wonderful. I did a lot of research on him and was very confident going into it and am very happy with my decision thus far. The surgery itself was a lot easier than I expected, I was banded on a Thursday and back to work on Monday. I feel hardly any pain or discomfort now, and it's amazing to not be hungry all the time. The liquid diet ain't no picnic, but I've only got a few more days left and real food here I come! :) I've noticed a huge decrease in the amount of food I need to consume to feel full - if I eat 1/2 bowl of creamy Soup I'm stuffed or a small bowl of cream of wheat I feel like I've eaten a whole meal. My 1st fill is scheduled in October, so I'm hoping after "real restriction" it'll be even easier to eat less and feel full.

Honestly, I thought this whole thing would be alot more difficult than it has been. My scale hasn't moved for a few days now, so I think I'm going through a plateau stage, but I'll take the 18lbs lost and I know it'll just continue dropping off once I add exercise into the mix! So here's my advice: Do as much research as you can to make an informed decision on both the procedure and the Dr. Look up any questions you have on the forums - they're a wonderful source of information and experiences. Best of luck to you!!!

Hi

My name is Erin and Im from the bay area too. I am being banded by Dr. Jossart with Laparoscopic Associates of San Francisco on this thursday 9/15. Im getting nervous about the liquid diet part. Were you hungry during this period? Tomorrow is my last day to eat before getting ready for my surgery. My sister had the gastric bypass two years ago and she said during the liquid part she wasn't even hungry. But I see posts on here of people being hungry. I guess that scares me.

I was not hungry until after the 1st week... and then it is not like you think. One drop of something semi mushy filled me to the brim.

Hey Rica!

My first fill is Oct 8th.

Erin: The hunger is nothing like "normal pre-band hunger" it's just a slight hungry feeling and after you eat a TEENSY bit you feel full again. Alot of us feel hungy or light headed too while on the liquid phase because we're not consuming enuf Protein. The shakes are good for that as well as yogurt, etc. It's nothing like the hunger you feel b4 you get the band like you need to sit down to a meal. I eat 1/2 cup of Soup and I'm full and b4 I needed to eat a sandwhich, bag of chips and a soda :) Hope that puts it into perspective for ya.

Matt: You're most welcome! :D Good luck with whatever you decide and keep us all posted - that's what we're here for!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
