How are the banded Notorious Novembers???

Recommended Posts

Thanks for the info on the pouch test and also the tips on the South Beach plan. My husband is working out of town this week, so this is the perfect time to try it out.

I am sure that some of the other "Grammas" out there are also suffering from the slower metabolism, like I am. It sure makes weight loss a lot slower and a lot more work! Thanks again, Cindy

Well just got back from a fill. He added 1 cc so it is a total of 6cc's. Found that my port was flipped, but with much effort on his part and much pain on mine, he got it to flip back. After 5 minutes of treating my chest, where my port is, like kneeding dough, I am left with a bruise that goes across my chest:eek:. Ouch!!!!

On a better note: I have restriction!!!! I tried to eat a piece of chicken breast and ate 5 bites and was full and actually PB'd.

I just had my second fill and it is helping. I don't think from what I read that the weight for anyone is coming off fast but it is coming off. I had my appt later than last week because my doctor is so busy. I called and asked if they had a cancelation and got in a week early. If I were you I would call and beg for an appt so you won't get discouraged. Or just maintain you weight until you get your fill. Any weight loss is victory. Don't give up on your ban you have come too far.

I am trying to get in this week for a fill. I have an appointment on the 20th but that is still two weeks away. Getting hungry faster again. No weight loss for three weeks now, but my physique is changing and I feel more graceful and clothes are fitting really nicely. I feel very motivated this week, unlike last week.

We sound so alike.. I started at 240, I am currently 213 but the scale is and has not moved for a few weeks. How many CCs do you have? I am at 6.5

I'm 6.75cc's in a 10cc band. So far so good. Although I think I might be too tight right now. Felt fine on Thursday & Friday, but this weekend started getting really bad heartburn. Today I feel a little bit better.

For about a month I gained 7 pounds then I lost it a several pounds more. Now I feel I'm at a stand still again. I haven't lost anything since the last fill.

But I too notive the inches. On 9.3.08 a few montsh before surgery to 2.2.09 I have lost almost 12 inches. Clothes are fitting great or not at all now.

I sure thought the weight would have come off faster. My doctor had me all pumped up. He said it would be like being on Phen-Phen I wouldn't be hungry and the weight would fly off.

He must have been high off all the $$$ signs he was seeing.

But I do feel better about myself and what I eating. No where near what I used to eat that's for sure. I just hate the slimming....

I am also doing well with my fill, however, I realize that if I am not paying attention while eating my food will get stuck. Its just the worse feeling in the world. I have been throwing the food up, although I know I should. Its just so hard. I am just wondering how many people are struggling with their eating. I know that its best to eat smaller bites, but I don't normally have the problem. But when it happens. Wow........

The tighter I get, the more food that gets stuck. I really have to remember to chew chew chew.

Hi Everyone,

I've been reading this post and see where several people have had a very hard time in trying to get rid of the extra weight. After my workout today (I walked for 80 minutes = 4 .2 miles) I weighed 260 down 66 pounds from my start weight. I know that sounds like a lot but I just had a lot more extra weight to get rid of than you do, so, it comes off faster, is all.

I'm lucky that the weight is coming off but I'm disappointed that it isn't going down even faster! I think that the workouts and the very tight diet has made the difference for me but I don't recommend this to everyone as it really sucks doing that much time in heavy sweat. I really don't care for it other than for the pounds melting away.

Being a male seems to help a great deal and I have time now that I'm "Simi" retired. If I were still working I don't think I would be able to spend as much time working out and my weight would not drop as fast, I'm sure. My desk job was sent to India so I was retired early and I now have time to hunt for a new job and exercise at the same time. Otherwise, I'm sure my weight would not drop so fast. I tell myself that my new job is to reduce my weight so I work on it at least an hour a day.

I'm writing you to give you hope. My band is working (somewhat) to help curb the hunger but that's only part of the story. Try to start walking as much as you can and see if you can get past the "weight holds". If I can get rid of 66 pounds (from 11/19/08) then you can too. I'm the world's worst in trying to diet but with the walking and with the diet combination I'm doing very well. Hang in there no matter what and just remember that when it starts to come off you will be able to do more and it will come off even faster. I know it sounds easy when it's really not. But, I'm doing my best and I hope that it gives you the desire to do well because it does work.

Aloud....boy do I feel your pain! I am the world's worst when it comes to swallowing my food whole...can't do it now...or up it comes! I've had one fill. Got it 1/16. I have the 1st bite syndrom...that 1st bite can be a killer...why? because my first bite is way too big and I don't chew, chew, chew.

A fellow bander told me to count to 40 as I chew...that seems to work very well AND to not allow myself to get really hungry...that I'm having problems with. Does your hunger come on all of a sudden? It's like I'm full one minute then wow...I'm famished. I'm now using my 18yr old son's Winnie the Pooh toddler spoon and fork. It's been working.

I also use a toddler spoon & fork. And I also use a salad plate or the plate that goes with your tea cups. Seems to really help with the over eating or putting too much on my plate.

Denny,

Your stats are awesome! Congrats! You men can always lose so much faster than us gals!

I'm very happy with my weight loss thus far. To me, slow and steady will win the race. The first NSV for me was stopping my Metformin (diabetes meds) and my A1C being in the normal range. Becoming a Type II diabetic sealed the LapBand deal for me.

I'm now up to exercising 1 hr a day 5-6 days a week. I have so much more energy now. I've been the Weight Watcher route. Loose 5lbs the first week then .5 or 1 lb then next and the next. I'd get so frustrated with that type of loss.

I knew going in what to expect. I have a good friend who was banded a few years ago. I'll take it one pound at a time...

I think we are all doing great. Where would we be right now without it??? I sure know where I was headed and it wasn't a pretty site.

I do have more energy as well. I just wish I could gt my butt out there and walk some more. Right now I walk maybe 1-3 times a week. I've told myself, even 15-20 everyday will not kill me to get started. I don't need 2-4 miles and not like it.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
