How are the banded Notorious Novembers???

Recommended Posts

Banded on Nov 24, 2008

Hey this here girl is doing great. I never really feel hungry, so that is great...No insulin Shots any more. I am taking some glucophage, but I don't mind that so much. What I do hate is the ground up meds that I still take.

As you can see I am still losing. I watch what I eat. I have eaten Hamburger meet, Pork chop, Fish, chicen and cooked Vegies. I ate Turkey at Christmas, A tablespoon of mashed potato, sweet potato, and green Beans. I have not tried bread, but that is ok. My chocolate, and vanilla Protein powder in my coffee, is still a great stand by for me...Yogurt for snack. I also have done Almonds (8) for a snack also. I used to never Burp and I do so now. I can handle that also. I am so afraid of getting stuck or to full and then have to throw up. But as Happy as a Lark with my weight loss.

Louise

I was banded the same day as you! You are doing great! Have you gotten a fill yet or are you scheduled? I'm scheduled for next Tuesday. Like you, I still get full fast and feel some restriction so I don't know how that will go. Also, I am scared of getting something stuck!! I am so careful to take small bites and chew so much. So far so good and I have had a variety of foods.

I wonder if it is because you guys got your first fill before you were healed enough. At my 2 week post op visit, I asked why I couldn't get my first at 4 weeks post op, and the Dr. said I just would not be quite healed enough and had to wait until the adhesions were totally formed or something like that. I was still sore last week anyway!

I have thrown up several times in the past 3 weeks. I am eating slower and chewing. I have not had any fills. Some days food goes down no prob, the next the same food gets stuck. Advice?

Try drinking something warm before you eat (hot tea or broth), it seems to loosen up my band.

I go back in on Jan 17, and then they will decide on a fill. That is me too, I am so afraid to over do and get to full. I have seen some people who have not had to be banded on this website, and they still lose.

I need to check in with you guys every day. I've been slacking off on the message board over the holidays and I can feel the difference in my attitude.

I called my doctor the other day and told them I'm pretty hungry, could we please move up my fill appointment. They changed it from the 14th to the 7th. YAY! It still irritates me that I've had to wait so long. I guess my doc has his reasons. I think he is very conservative and strict. Darn it. The 7th will be almost six weeks out from surgery exactly. I wonder if that's what is recommended for the "centers of excellence".

Oh well. I'm looking forward to moving on to the next phase of my journey.

This is awesome that we are all starting off the new year together. We are molding into our new selves, our new eating habits, exercise habits and attitudes. Best of all, this will result in our bodies molding into wonderful, healthy, sexy, bodies. No more stares from strangers, huffing and puffing after one flight of stairs, shopping at the big girl (or boy) stores, dreading summer and the beach, hanging over chairs or being pinched by theater seats, etc.

Should we make a list? What are you looking forward to?

One of my biggies is being able to scooch out of a row in the theater to get past people and not having my huge a** sticking into their faces. The other one is not having to see the look of dread on people's faces when they see me walking towards their seat on the subway.

WOOHOO!!!

A guy in the support group from the center where I was banded, went 8 months before he got his first fill. He lost 100 pounds in that period. He then plateaued and got 4 fills over the next 4 months.

You may want to rethink that. A lot of people have said that after their first fill, they don't feel restriction for up to 2 weeks. Personally, I had my fill and didn't feel a darn bit of difference for a week. Then it just hit me, and I lost 3lbs in one week. So I wouldn't go get that 2nd fill so soon. Wait at least 2 weeks before you do it. You might wake up one morning and find you're so tight you can't swallow Water. Honestly, it kind of scares me that your doctor would allow you to get two fills that close together, because certainly they know how some fills have a "delayed reaction". Just be careful, that's all I'm saying.

This would be my 3rd fill. My first fill I felt nothing, even 2 weeks later. On 12/30 was my 2nd fill and I feel a little restriction but not enough. So I am excited that my doctor lets you get there as soon as you can so you can start losing. If I feel it is too tight I am 1 mile away from the office so I can just have them unfill if needed. I doubt that will be the case though. Most of you have lost weight, well I haven't. In fact I am just gaining more and more each week. I need to get to that sweet spot soon as I can.

Tuesday was my second fill ad I can feel the difference. My firt fill was great i wasn't ungry much and I could stay within my portions. Now i just had my second and boy, I can be on liquids for a while if I wanted. Much more restriction and feels great. I was filled with 2 1/2 cc the first and 1 1/2 the second. Please don't give up. your fills will hit you. I got the best doc. He makes sure that I'm scheduled every month to see if I need a fill. Just chew chew and eat your Proteins. Good Luck!!

So far, this fill business sure works. Had my first fill on Tuesday, 3.5 cc. liquid diet for two days--no biggie, no appetite anyway. Ate a bit of lobster last night, not much. Protein Shake for Breakfast today, lunch was some cottage cheese and a teeny bit of fish. Test time--dad took me to dinner, at a Mexican restaurant, boy was I worried. Could only eat about half of one enchilada and have been full ever since (six hours ago). YAY!

I'm curious if anyone elses doctor told them not to gulp liquids. They showed me xrays of a gal who had gulped Water and it blew up her esophagus. I'm horrible about doing this, after I work out. So, everyone, be careful!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
