New Lap Band technique

Recommended Posts

I saw a special on FOX that showed the newest technique was thru the mouth, no incisions. Only a few doctors in the U.S. have trained to perform surgery this way. Its better they said for overweight people because they have more things that can go wrong in surgery than their skinnier counterparts.

I think I read at least one person who had their lapband this way who posted on this forum.

Hmm I had my tubes tied through my belly button but not my band. You can barely see my scars anyway so mine wasn't bad.

Interesting though

I saw that clip but they said it was an experimental procedure and it wasn't for lap band. It was a less severe method of doing by-pass surgery.

My doctor insists on a two week pre-surgery all liquid diet to help de-fat the liver and make surgery easier -- and with fewer risks. She also has a technique of putting in an extra stitch to secure the band which supposedly cuts down on slipage.

If you click on the Fox link that I posted it actually shows part of the procedure for applying the lap band. In that video the doctor even states that it reduces the amount of pain killers needed after the surgery.

I also had my tubal that way. No one would ever know I've had it done, no visible scars at all.

Even breast implants can be inserted through the belly button, so it makes total sense that the LB procedure could be done that way too. Neato!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
