Can someone who has been banded by WLSC in Newport News tell me if there are any out of pocket expenses not covered by insurance?

I went to a Lap Band seminar with the Norfolk Surgical group. I have full insurance coverage. The entire group of seminar attendees were told there is a one time out of pocket fee for services ($500) that is not covered by insurances. The fee has to be paid at the initial office visit to proceed with pre-op care and surgical schedualing.

Is this common with other Tidewater weight loss surgeons?

I was just banded by Dr. Thomas Clark, at the WLSC on October 27th.

Yes, there is a $720 program fee that is not covered by the insurance companies. They do allow you to break it up into two payments. The first payment is due before your Pre-op Nutrition class and the second payment is due at your post-op appointment, which is usually two weeks after your surgery.

There is also a $30 fee for the Computerized Behavioral Assessment that you must take before seeing the psychologist. This is also not covered by your insurance.

Other than those two fees, there are no other "out of pocket" expenses (unless determined by your insurance company) that the WLSC requires.
