Fills and the Vanguard Band

Recommended Posts

Your dr should have given you all of that infowhen you were banded. I would call and ask for it. I have the large VG band and was given 6cc for my first fill, no restriction. Second fill, added 3 cc more and am tight till after noon.

I have 9.5 ml in a VG band and finally have the resritcion that the band promises. I can only eat 1/4 cup of food at a time and even that is a chore. Restriction will come. Getting to 9.5 ml was an 11 month process for me. I, too, could eat voluminous amounts of food with the band and with fills. Everyone has a different sweet spot.

Hi Everyone

I was wondering if anyone out there with a vanguard band can tell me how much Fluid was placed in their band during their first fill. I realize that some docs will put some Fluid in the band right away--not mine. I am several weeks out from surgery--I can tell I have no restriction what so ever. That being said, I am doing my best to follow docs order regarding portions and textures of food.

I am scheduled for my first fill July 22 and I know that adjustments are not an exact science, but I am curious what I can expect. Also, for those with the vanguard band did anyone have any level of restriction right out of the chute? and if not, how many fills and with what amount of fill has it taken to achieve any restriction?

My first fill was 4.0 and no restriction until fill number 4 with 8.4CCs in the VG band.

Hi 6cc's during surgery and now eight months later 12.5 cc's, finally restriction.

How much does your band hold? Is the max 11. I currently have 10 cc and I do have some restriction but not as much as I would like and I dont think its going to get much better with just 1cc left to go. My Dr doesnt seem to believe me and though I have asked for a fill under fluro they keep saying only if there is a problem. Well to me this is a problem because I have to rely to much on will power. I have been doing good with it so far but I doubt I can keep it up for life. :help:

My doc says the VG band will easily hold 14+cc's. When I started to get over 10 cc's without restriction I was worried also. Now at 12.5cc I am a happy camper!

I actually call mine the 14cc band for the same reason. My dr told me not to worry if I got to 10cc without real good restriction

Thanks that makes me feel better. I was so worried and upset about it last night that I ate a whole slice of pizza and than ended up having a nightmere that my band had slipped. I know this sounds crazy but I ate the slice of pizza because I was trying to prove to myself that I did have more restriction than I thought I had. I kept eating it hoping that at any moment now I was going to start to slime or pb. Two things I have never experienced. Than I guess from the guilt of eating, I had a nightmere that my band had slipped. :cry

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
