Any Doctors out there willing to a down payment of $6k?

Recommended Posts

Ok so I have $6500 cash. I am super nervous about going to Mexico to get the lap band surgery. Ok I am more than super nervous....I am MEGA nervous and my family thinks I am crazy for even considering getting it done in Mexico. I have no insurance and can't get a loan. So my chances of having it done here in the US is slim to none. I am curious as to if anyone out there in lapband world know any doctors in the US that will take $6500 as a down payment and let me make payments directly to them? Better yet where in the US can I get the lapband surgery for CHEAP? Help:cry_smile:

I went to Mexico, as did MANY MANY if not most self pay. My doctor is doing it for $6500 right now. Lap Band Surgery $6,500, Gastric Band, Vertical Sleeve Tijuana Mexico I love them to death! Mexico is NOT a bad place. Ask around, and you will hear the common names of surgeons that are highly recommended. Mexico, Cananda & Europe began the band 10 years before the FDA ever approved it here. THey are 10 years ahead of us. Where do you think our Dr.'s learned from? Dr. Ortiz, from Tijuana trains doctors all over the world. He is one of the best known surgeon for the band in all the world. Lap Band Surgery in Mexico - Dr. Ariel Ortiz at the Obesity Control Center That is his website. They base their business on catering to us fat Americans. The service, skill, expertise, is amazing, or of course nobody would go back to them. Get that notion out of your head that your settling for second rate care. I've been much more impressed with my care there, than I ever was with my care in the states. Ask around, many will concur. Yes you'll hear of people who had bad outcomes, and there are those as well in the states. Your key to success is good follow up with your doctor for fills, any problems that arise, establishing eating patterns, etc..... Go for it!

If you DO go to Mexico, make sure you have a local surgeon who will take you as a patient. Getting the lap band is only part of the battle. You need access to a physician who will do your fills, unfills if needed, and so on. What if your port flips? It happens...what if you have a pain 6 months down the road...unfortunately it happens. Even the best surgeons have patients with problems down the road. Many surgeons are relutant to take on someone else's patient and you can't blame them with malpractice insurance etc.

If I were you, I'd call local surgeons and ask if any will take payments as you described, and/or consider continuing to save up. It's your call and many do go to Mexico (I lived on the border for years and would drag dying self back over to the US before I'd get treatment in Mexico, but then I've seen the ugly underbelly over there...)

Even if you went with a surgeon in another city or state, to save money, you'd still have the issue of follow-up care. Make sure you get that in place before you proceed!

YES! When you fly out of state, or country for your surgery, they WILL have you stay overnight in case of any problems. If your close by, they'll let you go home, but you would be able to drive over quickly if you ran into any adverse side effect. You would be staying over 1 night.

Sometimes you get what you pay for, and the cheapest isn't always the best. I would say surgery is one of those times.

Dr Ortiz is usually around $8000, but for heaven's sake, call and find out. It is a US phone call and they will tell you if they have any specials going on.

I was banded in Colorado by Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum. He charges $9950 for the surgery 3 months of post op care and fills, after the 3 months the fills are $15. You might call his office and ask if they could work something out. I know that they usually have people take out loans and yours would be pretty small, then you could make the payments to the loan people. he might do it directly, but I have no idea. here is the link with his website. Good Luck!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
