Banded 9/19/08...yay!! Now have lots of questions please help....(kinda long, sorry)

Recommended Posts

I've been reading lot and lots of good information, but now that I'm on the other side of the "band" wagon I'm confused, scared, worried and not sure if I should have done this!!:rolleyes2::wink: Okay, last thing I remember from surgery was.."are you ready..?" I said yes, then I woke up at 11:30 am feeling pretty good. I walked around 10 mins every hour, I had a little sips of Water but gosh I was so thirsty I wanted to gulp it in, but of course I couldn't. I was discharged, that afternoon, next day i went to my daughters soccer game, sunday relaxed a little also monday, so far so good. Not hungry at all, just thirsty! Today i went to work and I started feeling pain not sure if it's the port or my stomach... hoping that will go away..

My questions:

- When will I feel normal???

-When will I be able to sleep on my side without feeling the band/port move around???

-When will I ever burp..I feel like i want to but i can't. I have been walking a lot so I haven't had the shoulder pains or chest pains, i did get neck pains and I felt like I had something stuck in my throat that I wanted to swallow or cough up (found out is was normal)

- Sometimes I feel my right leg tinggle, like weird! Has anyone experienced that?

- When should i start taking my Vitamins? ?

HELP!!!

I'm just nervous and scared that something might go wrong! I want to go back to normal!! Please any advice is appreciated..

- When will I feel normal???

I felt normal about 2 weeks after surgery - 100%. I was back at work under a week and I was fun. You feel almost back to normal in about a week, maybe less.

-When will I be able to sleep on my side without feeling the band/port move around???

You will learn to adjust your sleeping position so it wont move around in there. It's no big deal and after a while, you don't even think about it.

-When will I ever burp..I feel like i want to but i can't. I have been walking a lot so I haven't had the shoulder pains or chest pains, i did get neck pains and I felt like I had something stuck in my throat that I wanted to swallow or cough up (found out is was normal)

I didn't feel like I had to burp, but my bloating and swelling went down after about a week.

- Sometimes I feel my right leg tinggle, like weird! Has anyone experienced that?

I didn't... it's probably just asleep since you're laying a lot and resting up to heal.

- When should i start taking my Vitamins??

As soon as you can have solids. Until then, have your shakes (they're loaded with nice Vitamins for you)

*I'm not a doctor, of course, so, take that for what it's worth :-)*

Oh I remember the first few days I just kept saying "What did I do to myself?!? But a week later I felt much better and two weeks later ouside a little port incision discomfort, I felt great.

It took a full week, maybe 10 days before I was able to sleep comfortably in my normal position.

As far as burping, I have not been able to burp since surgery...I hiccup a lot now.

Did not have the leg tingling.

Start taking Vitamins as soon as you can tolerate them.

Just take it one day at a time. This period will soon be just a memory. All that I went through was well worth it!

hey there! I also was banded on 19th Sept! We share a 'new' birth date. I am in Western Australia. I still feel some discomfort from sleeping on my side but it's getting better. I am so sick of fluids and am dying for something with flavour and substance. I find it very hard to burp and I was always a healthy burper, so that is also driving me nuts.. I seem to be able to do small burps which helps but is not ideal! I want to wish you all the absolute very best - take care of you!

I am 3 weeks out and I feel great. It took me about 10 days before I felt great. and I can sleep on my side now that took about 2 weeks. I know how you feel about if you did the right thing I felt the same way but didnt say anything b/c I didnt want to hear any I told you so's. I did not feel that way after about a week though. I am now going through a depression which is very normal. I was reading a series of books my first week and a half, but when I finished I got depressed. I didnt have something to pre-occupy my mind. I know I will get through it and my dr recommends me see my family dr to get something to help with depression. He said it could last up to 6 weeks but It does get better every day. Just keep up the good work.

- When will I feel normal???

I'm 4 weeks out and feel good, except that I get tired very easily and if I sit, scrunched up, too long then I hurt.

-When will I be able to sleep on my side without feeling the band/port move around???

I don't feel it move around but I am normally a side/stomach sleeper and found myself waking in the AM on my stomach a couple of weeks after surgery. It was and can be uncomfortable.

-When will I ever burp..I feel like i want to but i can't. I have been walking a lot so I haven't had the shoulder pains or chest pains, i did get neck pains and I felt like I had something stuck in my throat that I wanted to swallow or cough up (found out is was normal)

I actually only burp after I eat now. And usually b/c I'm pretty full. Otherwise, I don't, sometimes feel like I could though.

- Sometimes I feel my right leg tinggle, like weird! Has anyone experienced that?

Haven't had that unless I've been sitting funny for too long. Take a look at what's happening as you start that feeling. If you're not sure what's going on, call your doctor. Don't want to scare you but you need to be careful of bloodclots for a bit yet.

- When should i start taking my Vitamins??

I started right after surgery. I take 2 chewable children's Vitamins, liquid B-Complex w/a B-12 sublingual, liquid Omega, chewable Biotin, chewable Fiber Choice, chewable Calcium w/D, and I swallow my BP pills and acidolphilis pills. They're very tiny. I didn't start those til I started foods though. The multi-vit, Omega and Calcium, I split in 2 doses. Take one dose of each in the AM and another in the PM, otherwise you'll not get all the benefits of them.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
