Has anyone went through CHAMPVA and been approved? What did you do?

I am with Champva also and I am just starting my journey. I have to attend a seminar in the next few weeks. I called Champva and asked them questions about the requirements for the surgery and what the Dr had to submit when turning in the request for lapband surgery. I was told that you have to have one or more of the following:diabetes, high blood pressure, heart condition related to overweight, weight bearing problems on your joints such as bad knees, high cholesterol that is hard to maintain with meds,and there were a few more. I did call them and then I copied off their CHAMPVA Policy Manual on Surgery For Morbid Obesity. I do qualify because I have a BMI over 40 and I have pulmonary hypertension and obstructive sleep apnea but I may be denied because I have had Pulmonary embolization. They will have to determine if it will be okay or not. Then even if they do finding a surgeon may be diffcult. I will keep my fingers crossed that it can be done.

I found a supplemental insurance for the CHAMPVA/TRICARE program. Takes six months for pre-exsiting conditions to be covered.
