Anyone Being Banded in November???

Recommended Posts

good luck to everyone being banded. I got mine done on the 13th ..feeling pretty tender and I was wondering- taking a gel cap Advil bad for you? All my Dr gave to me for a prescription was demerol and i find that it never takes pain away just puts me to sleep.

I would consult your Dr. I haven't been banded yet but my dr. gave me strict instuctions to crush the pills or get liquid Tylenol. You don't want the capsul getting stuck.

You absolutely CANNOT take any kind of pill! The opening between your pouch and your stomach is small to begin with. Add to that the fact that you're really swollen, and guess what? Anything bigger than half the tip of your pinky finger will get STUCK. I tried applesauce at 2 days post-op and I felt it going down, and it hurt because the clumps were too big to slide through. This is why you're on liquids only!

I mean no disrespect, but seriously - don't people do tons of research before having surgery on their stomachs????? Why on earth would you NOT?

Well all I have heard about is crushing HARD pills ..there has not been one mention of gel caps...after all isnt this a forum to learn from? You only get the answer if you ask them RIGHT??? So excuse me for asking a question.

I have read on other forums where people are doing things totally different in other regions.,

Hi!

This is my first time to post. I am new to this site. I have my surgery scheduled for Tuesday Nov. 25th, in the DFW area. Just wondering if anyone else is as crazy as me, and is having surgery the week of Thanksgiving?

Hi Jorja. I was banded on Nov. 10. I had asked my doctor about taking my regular meds and was told to take them one at a time slowly. I have been doing that and have had no trouble at all. I would suggest that you verify with your doc but this has been my experience. In fact the pain meds I was sent home with were regular size pills (vicodin) and they went down fine. Just go slowly and you should be fine. I can't imagine a gelcap giving you any difficulty. Good Luck and take things slowly.

Thanks Lcubed!

I did end up taking one gel cap and followed it with hot beef broth and no problems.I figured it would melt it..now I'm feeling a bit better!! I would be to worried to try it with a big round hard pill right now. I was desperate.

I was banded on 11/11 and I wish I never did it. Everytime I eat something my stomach hurts so bad. It doesn't matter that I eat real slow and that I puree everything even mashed potatoes it still hurts. I tried to have just liquid's and the feeling is exactly the same. Anyone else have these problems?

If you were only banded on November 11th, your not supposed to be eating yet! this might be why your stomach hurts. my dr. is going to have me on Clear Liquids the first week post-op, then cream Soups and baby food after. I don't think your supposed to eat solids for almost 4 weeks after. sorry your not well, hope this advice helps.

My Dr.s eating plan is clear liquid the day of surgery then pureed food starting the next day until your 2 week post op appointment. I've started on clear liquid today to see if it helps me if it does I will just stay on that until I see him.

Unhappyinpa. I would definately drink just clear liquids for a week. Your not suppose to have anything that would make your stomach contract like it is trying to digest. I have never heard of a doctor telling you it was ok to eat pureed foods so soon. Does your doctor specialize in lap band?

WannaBSkinnyB, Yes he does lapband and gastric bypass he is a very good surgeon and the best in this area. My friend had the lapband on 11/4 and she is doing fine with pureed food. She even had some chili the other day. (I don't think she should have had that)

My instructions from Dr Yau is clear fluids from day 2-5 then on to cream Soups and Meal Replacements then on to pureed food...I'm three days post surgery and I'm still having troubles with clear fluids. Maybe things are just to rushed for you?

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
