WHY are people voting for McCain?

Recommended Posts

I can't imagine it's easy for anyone who goes through it just as it's difficult for people to go through with an unwanted pregnancy.

Very true. Unfortunately, a mother faced with an unplanned pregnancy only has two options: a live baby or a dead baby. It is a very sad, sad thing for all involved (including the fathers).

what happened to separation of church and state?

Ya know...this gets thrown out a lot. The thing is, "separation of Church and State" means that the government is not legally able to force any citizen to practice any certain religion (ie, "Church of England").

I choose my canidate for many issues. Abortion issues, Gay rights issues, Economy, Energy, and how intelligent I think they are, Enviromental. No canidate is perfect for me, so I just have to pick the one that is farthest from awful for me.

Hmm you want a President that is "pro-life" but only when it comes to the life of a fetus. Dubya doesn't seem to care about the lives of the soldiers he is sending to Iraq and Afghanistan. Just sayin'

That's kinda how I feel too. I'm know he regrets their deaths, but I feel he was careless with their lives.

I do, as well. But a pro-abortion candidate is a deal breaker for me.

Someone asked me before if McCain was my first choice for president (it may have been you). Thinking of the primaries, he was actually my last choice, although based on the choice now (McCain or Obama) it's a no brainer for me.

No, it wasn't me. I don't think there is anything wrong with your decision, whether I agree with you or not it is obviously a very important issue for you.

It is a huge issue for me. It'd be like finding a candidate who agrees with you on most of the issues but also supports the KKK -- there's just no way to get past that one position.

If a candidate was pro-life BUT was an Atheist who was going to ban the practice of religion, would you still vote for him if his opponent was pro-choice?

I don't think that's a realistic question to answer because of the 1st Amendment. However, there is a reasonable question of a pro-life Democrat vs. a pro-abortion Republican, and in that case I definitely wouldn't vote for the Republican. I would look very closely at the Democrat's stand on other issues to see if I could stomach them, and if I could I would vote for the Dem (gulp!). But more likely I would end up voting for a 3rd party candidate.

I am voting for Obama! I think you all should quit listening to Fox news and learn to think for yourself! Do your research......and I am a political scientist, soon to get my doctorate. My dream is to teach politics at the college level but I hope most of all to teach my students to think for themselves. I will play devils advocate on both sides of the issue that way they can form their opinions genuinely. By the way, to those of you who think that you will pay more taxes under Obamas tax policy, I have news for you, unless you clear a quarter of a million dollars annually, you won't be paying a penny more if Obama is elected. However, if McCain is elected you will be paying taxes on your health insurance which has never been done before. Isn't health insurance high enough? Now we have to pay taxes on it? Obsurd. If anyone is an independant and not sure how to vote, just email me and I will answer any question you have about either candidates and I won't be biased. I am voting for Obama but I I don't expect everyone to agree with me.

Uh, it ain't just Fox News that has distorted fact / opinions. Can you say "NBC"? or the worst of the worst....MSNBC.

Unless you buy anything from small business. When their tax costs increase (and their profit margin declines) the costs get passed on to consumers.

Add to that the fact that Obama voted twice in the 2009 budget resolution to raise taxes on anyone making $42k or above, and the fact that you can't only tax people making over $250k to pay for all of the extra spending Obama is "obsurdly" proposing, and you have to squarely face the fact that taxes are going to go up on everyone with Obama as pres.

Then, of course, if you own stock and Obama increases the capital gains tax from 15% to 28% (as he's said he would), it doesn't matter if you make $250k or not -- up go your taxes. The Congress' Joint Committee on Taxation show 20% of those with capital gains in 2005 had annual incomes less than $50,000 -- oops -- did we just get a tax increase on people making under $250k?

And then today, showing his stunning knowledge of the economy, Obama proposed a zero capital gains tax for small businesses. Which, of course, small businesses don't pay.

"Obsurd."

Notice lately how the Obama campaign is now saying a quarter of a Million Dollars instead of Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Dollars? It's a trick to make the amount sound larger, unfortunately, it probably works as intended. $250K these days aren't what they used to be and this would hit many middle class, 2 income families as well as most small businesses.

That being said, I don't much care for McCain's health plan, either.

I have noticed that as well.

Also, making $250,000.00 in say, California is very different than making that here in ND, so how can that be considered "fair"???

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
