I'll be banded in less then 48hrs...AHHHH!!!

Recommended Posts

As the hour gets closer I begin to get all these crazy emotions- fear, sheer anxiousness, and complete hope for the future- I am sooo excited :) i can't wait to start my life- Of course I can't help to wish I could skip right over the whole surgery part of the day -

But I'm gonna try my hardest to be brave and get through it- Can someone give me a little heads up on how I will feel right after surgery- Will I be woozy, tired, in a lot of pain? Any input would be great guys...Thanks and please keep in your thoughts on Monday:thumbup:

My doctor contacted my husband at 8:45am to let him know my surgery was over. I'm not sure how long it took, but I went in sometime after 8am. About 10am, the nurse woke me up in recovery. I must have been out sound asleep. I was groggy for a few minutes. She asked me on a scale of one to ten how much pain I was in. I said a six, she put something in my IV, and within minutes, I gave her a two rating. I would have said one, because I really wasn't in pain, but I could feel the incisions were there. So, don't worry, you'll be in good hands!!

I was the first case on August 21st, I remember nothing after they put me on the operating table and told me to put my arms out to my sides. That was it I was out. I woke up in the recovery room, barely remember my MD telling me everything went well. Thankfully he talked to my mother LOL. I was taken to my room, and I really had no pain except for the incision pain and that was next to nothing. I left the hospital about 12:30pm after my mother wentto get my prescription filled. Half and hour drive home, I was pretty comfortable but then came the gas pains. Oh I hope you don't have them becuase they were horrible. The pain medication wouldn't touch them, I was in allot of pain and there was some nausea, although I never threw-up. I wondered if I would ever be able to drink normally because I could actually feel the swelling around my stomach. Just remember if you have gas pain to walk walk walk, I literally walked the entire first night and slept sitting up for about 1 1/2 hours only. After the gas was getting better I felt allot better, actually could sleep. Good Luck to you, it really isn't that bad, everyone is a bit different

Do not fear! Some of us don't even experience the discomfort from gas that vsnowrn did. I had my surgery in Santa Barbara at Cottage Hospital. I went in at 5 a.m., and surgery was at 7:15. Those two hours were spent getting ready. They gave me two or three kinds of anti-nausea meds before surgery, so I wouldn't have to deal with being sick afterwards. That's a good thing, and I'd ask your doctor if he does the same thing. The surgery was easy on me. I just remember being sleepy most of the afternoon after they took me to my recovery room. I spoke to the doctor and one of his residents during that time, and I believe that I was given some pain meds in my IV because I had minimal pain. I left the hospital at about 5 p.m. (I think he kept me so long because I lived far enough away that he wanted to make sure everything was o.k.) When I got home, I had company waiting for me, so I was up walking around quite a bit, and I think that was a positive thing for me. The following day and a half, I took some pain meds, mainly because the doctor felt that it is better to attack pain before it gets a hold and says that on a scale of 1-10, start taking it when you hit a 3. I did and had minimal discomfort. I was up and about normally on day three, although I would take little naps in the afternoon. The discomfort from the gas they put in you was more in my back, and pain meds don't help that a lot. Just walk and the best thing I did was sit on a chair and put my arms above my head and lean back a bit. It stretched my back, without pulling on my stomach, and it gave me relief.

I went in about 730 am, woke up on my own in recover at 9, and was back in my room by 930. I had to wait wait wait to have a thin barium swallow done....standard operating procedure by my surgeon to make sure things are going where they should...then I got to go home. I felt marvelous and was even on here posting that night! I slept on my left side the first night, tummy the second night. I took 1 pain pill on day 2, otherwise, liquid tylenol took care of my pain. I had no restriction from the get-go. When I woke up in recovery my chest felt tight but deep breathing for about 5 minutes took care of it. The RN offered me 2 mg of morphine but I asked for just 1 and was fine with that (didn't want to be groggy...I wanted to wake up) I mostly felt sore (as if I'd done too many sit ups) and that was totally tolerable for me. The gas pains were minor and walking walking walking helps you feel better from head to toe. I've felt great pretty much since surgery and can't wait for my 1st fill on Oct 9!

So, Angie et. al., how are you doing? I'm getting some referred pain through my shoulder/collarbone whenever I cough, etc. but there's prolly some gas in there still. My port site hurts the worst of all the incisions...I don't think the others hurt at all!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
