I'm STARVINGGGGGGG

Recommended Posts

I have been following my plan to the T because I have been so afraid to do otherwise. I go on Friday for my diet advancement program, meaning mushies. Tell me folks, have refriend Beans ever sounded so good!? Does applesauce sound like a childhood food any longer. Do you find yourself excited that you will wiggle when you jiggle from eating Jello? I'm having food dreams. I turned to the Food Channel just so I could see it. I opened my mouth each time they took a bite. I work from home and co-worker will send me an instant message about lunch. I said 'where did you go? Tell me in detail what you ate??? Were there pickles on the sandwich, was the bread warm and squishy the way I like it".

I'm looking forward to feeling like I am full.

Thanks for letting me vent!! I don't have a fill yet, that will help I'm sure.

Ks :)

I am right there with you. I am supposed to get a call on Monday from the nutritionist to advance me to pureed foods and I too am dreaming about it. I can not eat one more bite of sugarfree Jello and I am seriously getting sick of Cream of Wheat. Even sugar free popsicles are tasting weird to me. It seems everything I have been eating is either bland or chocolate flavored (pudding, Protein drink). I will then go to semi-soft foods after pureed and then finally to regular food.

Who would think we would get excited about mushie food? LOL.

I was HANGING for mushies and now I'm hanging for real food! :)

I made a really nice vegie frittata in the mushies with all the vegies blended and it has lasted me for 4 lunches (which would have previously been one lunch) and it is SOOOO yummy!

I also have loved spag bol (with pasta) and tuna mornay (with brown rice)(all from base ingredients coz it tastes better) and then blended to within an inch of their lives!

i hope i am not doing the wrong thing, but my dietician told me i could eat soft veggies and fish tuna, things like that i dont have to blend it, if it is soft, i hate pureed food, and i have only tried one lot of mashed potato and gravy, i was gagging on it near the end because it took so long to counsme a small amount and it had gone cold. i have also been having some of that yummy gipsland yogurt, and yogurt drinks. i am due for my first fill on 2nd october, and i have lost as of today, 6,5kgs from august 19th, hope all are doing extremly well. good luck to all.

In the mushie phase you gotta get more creative than cream of wheat and pudding! Here are some suggestions:

Pimento cheese

Guacamole

Baked regular or sweet potato with a splash of broth mixed or butter mixed in to thin it a bit

Just about any Soup that doesn't have meat or tough veggies like onions, corn, etc. Canned Soups are good because pretty much anything in a canned Soup is mushie. Now you can have that baked potato soup, or that chowder, or even a split pea.

Creamed spinach (awesome for Iron!)

tuna, chicken or Egg salad

Red sauce with a dollop of ricotta on it. Think Italiano!

Hope this helps!

Sounds ok a few chews and it is mush anyway!!

I had some white fish and chewed and chewed and it was yummy i had it with mashed potato with a bit of garlic salt through it which was REALLY tasty but the meal looked kinda icky because it was all white  Just didn't seem right:lol:

I really wanted to ask about the salad. I see a few people saying they eat chicken or tuna salad on the mushie phase, how is that mushie? Do you puree down the lettuce and tomatoes and onions???? Sounds kindof yuckie. I was just wondering

I wasn't cleared for chicken salad in the mushie phase, just tuna and egg salad. I don't blender/chop it up, I just chop egg up small. Tuna I just separate with my fork. I was told regular tuna (not albacore) in Water as it isn't as dry. Also, the salad can't have any onions or celery or anything - just Mayonnaise. It goes down smooth. Hope that helps.

No honey, the salad isn't that kind of salad, thank goodness. That would be yucky! It's a tin of tuna, or chicken, or some chopped freshly boiled eggs, all bound together with a bit of mayonaise. It's actually quite nice because you can add spices to make it taste differently. I like a bit of mustard in my egg salad. Bumblebee Tuna has a new tin that is flavored with sun dried tomatoes and basil. Instead of draining it like regular tinned tuna, I just mix the mayo into the flavored juices too. It is fabulous! I bought the tins at Walmart. They have a Spicy Thai flavor too. Oh, and tinned meats are considered mushies because, well, they really are mushy compared to their fresh version.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
