Meeting Men

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone!

Okay, I am totally lost when it comes to meeting men. I have liked the same guy all throughout college, but I now know that he is gay. He's the only guy I have ever talked to. I'm moving to Philadelphia from CA for grad school, and I am excited about making some changes.

How do you guys meet people? Does anyone use dating sites? I spend a lot of time studying, and I really want to branch out and not be so lonely. I have no idea how to meet someone or how to talk to a guy. I know that confidene is important, but I'm pretty shy. Does anyone have any tips for me?

I have been married for six years now, but I met alot of my ex's and even my now hubby thru mutual friends. If you are moving to an area where you dont know anyone, I'd check the PA thread on LBT to see who you might meet and make friends with. Ya never know. :lovechoc:

I met my boyfriend at work. But i think getting involved in study groups can help you meet people. Or get involved in causes you believe in so you can meet men with similar interests.

Get active after you move and join a few clubs that have activities like hikes, etc. Maybe take a class or two at the gym that men are likely to take, like kick boxing. Join a singles group at church. Keep your eyes open at everyday locations like the book store or grocery store. I often start conversations by asking a question like, "Have you ever tried this Protein drink?" If he says a quick answer and walks away, he isn't interested. If he answers the question and stays to continue talking, he may be interested. If he stays to talk and you think he is cute, say, "I was just about to get some coffee/ice tea/water at Starbucks/Taco Bell/whatever is next door; would you like to join me?"

I've had confidence with men ever since the day I told myself that it is just as likely that people DO like me as it is that they DON'T like me. I try to be friendly and ask questions about THEM and try not to talk about me.

I don't recommend on-line dating for someone with little experience. There are some real losers out there. But no matter what, always stay safe and meet in public places, never get into a stranger's car, get his number first before you give out your's.

Good luck!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
