i had my surgery on August 18th. i started my student teaching today and i feel like i could cry. my chest is hurting soooooo bad and my incisions hurt. i had my staples taken out yesterday. i have had a alot of chest pain throughout this past week. i went back to the surgeon with it and he said everything was fine and my band hadnt moved. my chest hurts more than my stomach ever did. there were times at school that i thought i was going to cry because i was in so much pain. when does it go away?!?!?!?! ive heard so many people say that this wasnt bad and that they were up and at work in a couple of days. i just dont see how. has anybody has alot of chest pain with this? i dont think its gas pains...the surgeon said it was prolly swelling around the band and it might last 2-3 weeks!!! i am placed in a kindergarten class. so you can imagine how much running around im doing in class. i just need to hear some words of encouragement or some thing cause im on the edge of breaking down into a crying fit. does anybody know of something i can do to help with the pain?!?

oh i guess i could tell you that im doing really well with the weight loss part. I have lost 11 lbs in a week!!

you are not a baby. It took me more than a week to even get back to work and even now my chest still hurts at times.

I whined to my Dr and she told me that the pain would go away and day by day I feel better.

hang in there!

I agree you are not a baby. I was banded on 8/15/08, and I too planned to go to work in a couple of days....well I went on day 6 post-op. Like you, it hurt and wore me out. And, I do not have a k-g class! I had chest pain and now battling a severe rash that several doctors have stated, they have not seen before. But we will be ok, I promise!

Hang in there!!!

easy for some, not for everyone. Give yourself time. One thing I've noticed, is ANYTIME I have chest pain, it's from stomach swelling, and I had LOTS Of it after my surgery, LOTS! My stomach did NOT react well to having a band around it, and it swelled so much I felt like I had something choking me some days. Liquids, stay with warm liquids as long as you can, and anytime you have pain. It soothes the tummy, and gives your stomach time to heal, and adjust to having something around it. Once that goes away, and it could take 10-14 days, SLOWLY advance to creamy foods. If your stomach in any way reacts, and swells again, always resort back to a day or two of liquids. Its frustrating, I know, but you'll get to where you need to be, just sometimes slower than you'd like.

You're not a baby! Everyone's bodies handle pain different. I did alright, I had my surgery on Thursday, and went back to work on Monday just fine.. I was still a bit sore, but nothing unbearable. I expected a lot worse. The gas pains were the only thing that killed me! lol.. Hope you feel better, and good job with the 11 pounds.. it just keeps getting better.. before you know it you'll be like wow who's that person in the mirror! it's a great feeling.

If you're a baby hand me a pacifier cause I'm right with you. I had a lot of post op pain too for a good 10 days. Don't overdo it, and don't beat yourself up over it. It will get better :w00t:

Agreed.

Many doctors and clinics will tell you that banding doesn't hurt much, that people get over it quickly.

Truth is, many of us do have a week or more of pain. I was a good 10 days before I was really starting to feel somewhat comfortable.

Hang in... it will pass.

I was banded on Aug 14 and returned to work on Aug 18 only because I had to. The first week whenever I had tightness in my chest or shoulder pain it was because of gas and I used my sons Mylacon drops and the pain was gone almost immediately. The Mylacon drops worked much better FOR ME then Gas X strips. Maybe it's worth a try for you too. They are in the infant section at your local drug store or super center.

Hope this helps.

P.S. Does anyone know how to get the little tickers to appear at the bottom of your screen? I have tried and tried but can't figure it out.

Count me in as a baby too then! I was absolutely miserable the first week post-op. I had surgery on a Wed and had planned to go back to work that following Monday...

That didn't happen! I ended up taking an extra 3 days.

Then, the first week I was back at work I was a mess. Nearly falling asleep at my desk & downing mylanta as often as possible. I also took liquid Tylenol as often as I cold.

Hang in there, it gets sooooooooooooo much better!!!

Now I am 6+ weeks post-op and I feel like a new person! I am sure you will too!

I need a pacifier too. The doctor's office told me I could have surgery and return to work really quickly. Let's just say I was glad I had 3 weeks between surgery and the start of school. I felt like total crap for the first week! I feel fine now, except if I bend over for too long. I know, because I was helping my students last week and had to bend over alot and I was sore for 2 days(at the port site)! Everyone is different. My friend was banded 2 weeks before me and was up and running errands in 3 days! I, on the otherhand, was stooped over like an old woman for a week!

Try to take it as easy as possible and definitely rest up on the weekends.

You're not a baby!!! I didn't go back to work for 4 weeks!! I recommend it for everyone. Took a good 2 months before I felt good again.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
