Was Banded on 8-8-08 .. Is it safe to have an adult beverage?

You're just past 2 weeks post op and you haven't healed internally yet, although you feel good! So unfortunately, no. You need to let your insides heal well before you start drinking.

I am pretty sure my Surgeon's instructions said no alcohol for two weeks, but everyone is different. I had a glass of red wine 3 weeks post-op but that was IT because I was also told to stay away from liquid calories if you really want to drop weight.

If you are concerned more about being healed enough, I would just call my Doctor's office and ask .

hope this helps you,

good luck!!!!

If for no other reason than the fact that all alcohol causes dehydration, in the early days you should refrain.

Again OP is a grown up...but we were told none for 3 months. I figure the band is more important to me than a drink...but then I got my party days under my belt a while back! LOL

My surgeon says no alcohol for an entire year after banding because alcohol can act as a gastric irritant. If you have some, I would limit it to no more than one, especially since your still a fresh post-op.

Adult beverages are only calories in a cup. You went through this whole process and yet you are willing to jeopardize your progress so far. You are a big girl and can make your own decisions, but I think you should reconsider and ask yourself why you think you should be having a drink so soon after surgery.

I think if you had one glass of wine it shouldn't hurt. I wouldn't go out and get stupid drunk! We have friends over alot and sit out on the deck and have a cocktail or two. It is enjoyable. I was banded on 8/14/08 and haven't had any alcohol since, but I have an appt with my surgeon this week and am going to ask him if I can have a glass of wine once a week or so.

I would wait until your Dr. says it's OK. Everything has to heal and we don't really need the calories.

I was banded on 10-25-07. I did not drink any alcohol until my 30th anniversary a few weeks ago. It did not bother me but you know after I drank the beer, I didn't really feel I needed it either. Finished the meal off with unsweetened ice tea.

I think that sometimes it's just something to do at a party.

I agree with Lanakila, this is a great oppertunity to get rid of any and all bad habits. I think a drink in the future will be fine, but, not right now when you are trying to establish a new, healthier lifestyle.

I went to the beach 2 weeks after surgery and had a Kahlua and 1% milk.

I tasted great and I was getting Protein.

Very relaxing!

I asked at my post-op appointment and my surgeon said "in moderation, but have fun, you earned it".

He is one of the top bariatric surgeons in the US.

My social 1 to 2 drinks on a Saturday night, did not make me fat, eating like a hog did!

I dont think one small drink would hurt, but folks say you will feel it more after dieting and being on liquids. If you have one just to be social and carry it around a lot, I cant see harm in that, but I wouldnt make it a habit and drink very sparingly. Put lots of ice in the drink for instance.

If this is a special party, be sociable, take a few small sips to be part of the group, but I wouldnt do any serious drinking. If you go to partys a lot, this isnt just a one time occassion, then I might rethink my answer.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
