i know this is silly...but i am new and have a question

Recommended Posts

as some of you have read, my date is 10/17. I am all excited. My question is a silly one, but i need to know what i am truely in for with the pain. I know everyone is different, but how much pain are people in after the surgury? I know i expect some..but some people said it is worse than giving birth (haven't been there yet), but i was wondering from some peoples experiences.

Have you had any other surgery so I can make a comparison for you.... everyone is sooo different w/ pain tolerance.

I went to Mexico for mine and they told me that I would return to my hotel a few hours after the surgery. but that did not happen I tried to stand up and was in so much pain that I had to stay overnight and had a hard time getting up the next day and had to lay down in the shower and was in quite a bit of pain for about a week and after that nothing unless i eat too much or too fast--that makes me feel like i am having a heart attack. I did not think it was worse than getting a c section though. But yes the pain is definately worth the thirty pounds ive lost so far

Everyone is so different.

I was in barely any. I was up and walking within a few hours. The first few hours felt like someone had grabbed my stomach with a fist and squeezed hard. But its hard to say how much pain that was in that groggy post anaesthetic morphine haze. Once all that wore off I was more than fine.

I came home the next day and went for a walk.

But I'd hate to mislead people because it is differnet for everyone. I mean I gave birth without pain relief twice and I dont think giving birth hurts that much. For which people most probably would like to stone me! I honestly dont. Nor was a caesar much to recover from.

Fingers crossed that its like that for you. But realistically, its not a HUGE operation and whilst there is likely to be post op discomfort, its not usually major or uncontrollable. The most problematic thing is usually the gas which starts in a day or two later.

I have not had any surgurys before.perhaps only wisdom teeth out.lol. I have high pain tolerance in my mouth...where the port is to be is like 3 inch above the belly button right? That is a sensitive spot for me as is where the insistions will be...oh i am such a baby!! SOrry....when i go to the dentist..lol...they give me valum before i go, because i can feel them drilling out cavities with all the novicain they give me. My mind out ways chemicals! So i am going to pretend it will not hurt. My doc. said i should be back to work in 3 days...that is why he does it on fridays.

OH i can't wait. Perhaps it is better not knowing..or not wondering. I know that through the movement of your organs, and breaking the connective tissue inside, that it has to be uncomfortable...plus the gas from what i have read! lol. I wish i could have it done earlier, they said they would schedule it earlier!! if i get approved on time! Wow .... to fit into clothes better, run around the dog show ring with out worrying about my tummy "hanging" out....ahh...if only smaller people knew what happens to us who are larger. My sister is always on a diet..ALWAYS...and always bragging. She used to be a larger person, and she seems to forget what it is like to be larger. I hope i don't forget, but forgive. I hope that i will never turn out like her and never ever be snobby like her!!!

I had mine installed Thursday. The pain was very bearable. I had worse pain when I had tendonitis in my elbow. They put me on a morphine drip, but I only hit it a couple of times before I realized it was making me nauseous. I was only using it to be able to sleep. Was sent home the next day and I have only used two of my percocet tablets. Tylenol is enough for me. Thie first two days your stomach muscles want to tense up. You have to keep stretching to prevent this. Other than that, there is no other pain now three days out.

I have discovered that I cannot belch. The air bubbles get stuck in the stoma and never make it up. So it all goes south to the other end.

Oh yeah. I sat on my riding mower and mowed my lawn Saturday.

I just had my surgery this past Friday, and honestly I wasn't in that much pain.. It was more of the gas pain that drove me crazy. I was walking an hour after the surgery. Laying down to sleep was hard because my left hand side of my stomach was sore from the port area. If I can recommend anything it would be to walk around, take Gas X, and your pain meds before the pain gets bad...

Surgery was pretty easy for me. Not a problem. Up and walking right away, I was on the pain meds for about 3 days, but slowly weaning off. On the last day, it was just to get some sleep. I have been walking, doing chores, errands, etc. since the third day.

Good Luck!

The gas was hands down the worst part!! Especially when it put pressure under my rib cage. I found that laying on the side that hurt really helped. Also, my sister would pound on my back. I don't know if it helped in the long run, but for the moment it felt amazing.

You'll be fine, I'm sure!!

why did you go to mexico?

I did not have insurance or a job and saw a special about how cheap it was in Mexico and how common it is for americans to go there for lapbands, plastic surgery, and dental surgery to save lots of $$$$. If I hadnt gone to mexico i would still be wishing i could get it done

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
