Roll Call...All having a Revision From Band to RNY Come on In

Recommended Posts

I have one more PCP visit on Oct 1 and then everything will get submitted to insurance, hopefully that same day or the day after.I found out that my insurance has a 30 day turnaround time and my surgeon is already booking November surgeries and on top of that my insurance is changing at the first of the year, so I am in a major time crunch:unsure:

Great thread!

I had lap band surgery in 2002 in Mexico and lost a little over 100 lbs. Then I gained back a little over 70 lbs. I had my conversion to RNY Feb 2008. Here is a link to my pictures on obesity help,

ObesityHelp - Gastric Bypass, LAP-BAND

Hopefully that link will work. I would post the pictures here, but I'm not sure I know how to do it. I had a rough time before band removal. Lots of pain and reflux..fills and un-fills, etc. When I had my conversion, my surgeon told me that my band had been placed on my esophagus and the band used was way too small for me! It was a rough go of it, but at least my band is out and my RNY is done. I've lost 91 lbs so far since my RNY. I'm really starting to feel good!

Here is an update since having band removed. I had RNY surgery in Sept. and my insurance paid for it! SO WOOOOOPPPYYY!!!!!! I have now lost an additional 21 pounds. Since banding in March I have now lost a total of 58 pounds. I love how good I feel now.

I wish I would have went straight for the RNY surgery as Lapband for me was not the less risky way to loss weight.

I had an easy recovery only about four days of feeling yucky. I was back at the gym in fourteen days and back to work after three weeks.

Im loving my life.

Paula

How is everyone doing so far?

My surgeon won't do the band removal and RNY in the same day, so I'm having my band (and my gallbladder apparently) removed on Monday, and then 2/23 will be my RNY surgery date!

I plan to start taking new Before pics on Sunday before my surgery

Sandy, I saw your pics - you look great! We need to see new pics now :cursing:

Paula, I'm glad your insurance covered it. I had a few moments of panic because my husband got laid off from work, but then I got insurance through my job, and had my approval for the RNY within 24 hours :) (the band removal they consider outpatient so precert wasn't required)

Congrats Brittworman....That is so exciting. A size Small?!?!?!?!? That is Awesome. If you don't mind my asking, Has the RNY been a better WLS for you than the band? I'm looking into revision right now but I'm afraid RNY won't work for me either!

I have to say it works very well if you follow the rules which aren't that much different than band rules. The best part of my revision is no more pb'ing and slimming.

So how was the recovery after having the band removed? Mine is coming out tomorrow, and I hope to be back at work a week from tomorrow! My RNY is scheduled for 2/23! So no PB or sliming with the RNY? Wonder what makes that different???

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
