Friday the 8th August - WEIGH IN!

Recommended Posts

OK folks! I'm not scheduled until the 28th, so no pre-op losses here yet. This will be my "start" weight, k? My hubby isn't getting a band, but has committed to lifestyle changes too. I figure I can track us both here to be able to keep a record. Who knows, maybe one day we'll have lost 200# between us :)

288.2#; hubby at 290.6

48.7 BMI; hubby at 42.9

I'll set a tiny goal for this next week; -3.2# by choosing foods more wisely and walking 3.0 miles on the treadmill.

I weighed in at 335 this morning which is pretty much what I have been at give or take 5 ponds for many months now. I will consider that my starting weight which is also what my ticker has. I walked in the park three times this week. I am getting banded on Thursday and my doctor has a mandatory one night stay in the hospital so I will weigh in one day late next week but I will be a different person and have embarked on the journey of (and for) a lifetime.

Okay, here is the weight loss, so far:

Nutritionist 6/30: 267

Day of surgery 8/5: 247

Today 8/8: 243

Somebody posted early about not ever having to gain back this weight, what a great thought. When I read it, it really sunk in, I am moving down the scale for good! Woo Hoo!

Remember cutie, you'd have lots of swelling too this early on. I'm sure by next Friday your swelling would have gone done substantially.

You are all CHAMPIONS!! Well done to committing yourselves to this thread and putting yourself out there for all of us to support you through this!

All we have to do is take it week by week - commit to our exercise and food goals for the week and just make it to next Friday staying true to them. I know we can do it together.

I am feeling much much better but still have a week off work. So I'm committing to walking at least 30 mins everyday, not just 4 times a week, this week.

0 lbs. This may sound crazy but I'm not trying to loose weight yet. You read that right. I'm not trying to loose weight right now.

My BMI just qualified for surgery b/c I also have high blood pressure. Once I start loosing my BMI will be quickly go below the required minimum of 35. I was told I will not be weighed again, but I keep having these nightmares that after surgery I will not be covered b/c my BMI was not at least 35 at the time of surgery.

My wife says I'm crazy. And, she may be right?!?

I start the two week pre-op diet on Monday, so I'm sure I will have some, hopefully a very little, weight loss to share next Friday.

For everyone else, CONGRATULATIONS!!

They said I can Advil. I stopped taking the pain meds, so I'm doing alot better.

I'm not to worry about being up, the way I go from here is down right?

I HOPE!!!!!

Keep up the good work everyone! I can't wait to see your number next friday. I'm hoping for a steady 2 lbs a week, believe me I'll take more! But, my goal is to lose 104 lbs the first year, and 35 - 40 during the second.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
