New here - overweight army wife looking for the loosers bench!

Recommended Posts

Hi all! I am Sheri... new to this board. I am married to my hero, my soldier, who is deployed to Iraq again!

I got "realized" on the 14th of July, and need some support! I moved to Virginia with my hunny and he up and left me here for the sandbox! So, here I sit, I don't know anyone... no family around.

Enough of my pity party! Hi everyone!

Hi Sheri -

Welcome to the message boards and congrats on being banded.

If you go to LBT Social Groups, there is a forum just for military spouses where you will be amoung friends who understand what it's like to be a military spouse. It's under Unite Military Spouses (or something like that). It just left my mind now that I'm typing... LOL!

Hi Sherri,

I'm sorry you're feeling so lonely. I know how bad that hurts. You're husband is our hero too!!!! I was curious by what you meant you were realized on July 14th? By my best guess since you're on this website is that you're overweight? Well if that's the case, you're in the right spot. The Lap band has changed my life. I started at 237 when I had the surgery (260 Highest) and now I am down to 179. This has not been the easiest journey for me, but nonetheless, I would do it again. I have never possesed the willpower do get this weight off. The band helps me stay in check. God bless you and your husband. I want you to know the two of you will be in my thoughts. Take care and I hope to see you again.

Cindy

BTW surgery was 10 months ago 9/25/07

Hello and Welcome to LBT. We are all very thankful for your husbands tour. I am sure he is making a difference :)

This board has been a life saver for me as well. No matter what day or time there's always someone online here that has a few kind words to lift your spirits or answer your questions.

Thanks ladies! I will check out the military spouses board.

I got the realize band instead of the lap-band brand - same procedure just different tie-wrap!

Long2bfree - have you gotten banded yet?

Cindy - awesome on your weight loss so far! Way to go girl!!! I can't wait for my success story...

BTW - I was banded on the 14th. Pre-surgery 206 - now - 183... first blockage - last night - childbirth is more pleasant that a blockage!

Hi and welcome to the board. You will find lots of support and info here. My start weight was 252, BMI 37-38, with high blood pressure, high cholesterol, GERD, knee arthritis, sleep apnea, everything but diabetes.

I was banded 3/25/08 and prior to surgery I lost 10 lbs on the 6 month diet attempt required by insurance, another 25 on the pre-op liquid diet (there are many versions-mine was 2 wks but ended up 3 wks because I caught a cold and my surgery was postponed a week-I could have a small amount of lean Protein up until 4 days before surgery-I used unbreaded chicken tenders from costco and hard boiled eggs). Since surgery I have lost another 45 lbs. My goal is 100 lbs. My surgeon even talked me out of a fill last time because he said I was ahead of schedule for weight loss, so it was okay that I could eat a little more. I was on a plateau for several weeks, and now it is starting to slowly creep down again. I had my first bloodwork and my cholesterol numbers are fantastic! I am hoping I can come off my meds and see how I do. I am exercising regularly (a big factor in success with the band), mostly walking, not particularly fast, in a park near home that has a 2 mile nature trail. I try to do twice around and I carry peanuts for the squirrels so I stop a lot. I am going for distance, not speed. I also belong to Curves, and in the fall when I lose daylight after work (I go to the park almost every day) there is an aquatic center near me with Water aerobics.

BTW, I have gone from Women's 22-24 to Misses 12-14 (kinda 13) in regular clothes, and in work clothes (I wear scrubs) down from 2x to baggy large (not quite a medium yet). Needless to say, I am THRILLED! I wish you the best on your journey. Some days will be hard, but keep your eye on the prize (better health, fewer meds, smaller dress size).

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
