Anyone else just... flake out during the process?

Recommended Posts

YES!! I absolutely understand what your talking about as far as starting the process and then just sort of "taking a break". I finally realized that I had to be in the right state of mind and that it's not just about me but also about the people I love and want to be with for a long time. So if you're worried about spending the money on yourself, think of it as spending money for those you love and those who love you by getting healthy and extending your life with them.

For me it was seeing my dad go into acute renal failure and experience multiple complications to the surgery that got me back into gear. The doctor said it was partially due to his weight which also caused his sleep apnea, a heart attach and high blood pressure. He's only 62 and almost didn't pull through. I don't want to be in the same place at such a young age. He also needed an additional surgery that they said he was too heavy for. He had to live in pain until he lost enough weight for the procedure. That's not a position I ever want to be in.

So here I am starting the insurance dance all over because my insurance changed but this time I intend to see it through! Good luck to you :)

I understand, I was being tossed from person to person, doctor to doctor test to test... and I kept thinking this isn't worth it - and would go home and eat a burger....(sad I know)... I also received confusing information and a long list of insurance information required by my surgeons office. I called my insurance and sat on the phone 3 - 5 hours several times a week trying to get answers. I finally went to my surgeons office and spoke to the billing lady and about started crying and she promised me that she would get the information. The next thing I heard is I got the approval, which it was cutting it close and had to take two more classes (Surgeons requirement) and did the clear liquid for 9 of the 10 days and had surgery less than 2 weeks later. Everything went quick once the insurance gave the approval... I did have special circumstances, my job was changing insurances the end of that month and the new insurance would not approve the surgery without several months of consistent weight loss. Which I had already met all the requirements of the 1st insurance company.

It was a mess, it was frustrating... I would not change a thing about my experience... and I LOVE my BAND -- Its like having kids...sometimes it doesn't listen, sometimes it makes you sick (like kids bring home stuff from school or daycare), and sometimes you are full up to here : ::reaches above head::

Get back in it, and whenever you get stuck try a different approach..

Good Luck!

 I just wanted to thank you all for your words of wisdom. Hearing your stories has really made me feel better.

I'm headed to the bariatrician's appointment in a few minutes, and this time, I am mentally prepared to give the supervised diet my all. Just one more hoop...

I have been through everything you have and have come full circle. About a month ago I decided that I could do this on my own. Not sure what I was thinking since I have been overweight since I was a kid. I have finally decided that the lap band is for me and that I need to do this for my health. I got a date for October! Wish you much luck in your journey!

I have got to say that I have also come full circle. I started doing all of the BC/BS mumbo jumbo they make you do starting last August. I am going for my EGD Wednesday then I will receive my surgery date. I am getting excited now! I have been overweight since I was a kid and I have come to realize that being "obese" is a disease. Just keep in mind that you are doing this for yourself and your health.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
