Switch to mushies early??

Recommended Posts

So I am still supposed to be on full liquids until Saturday, but I have been having a really hard time with it. Not that I don't like it, but that I feel sick after every time I eat. I even felt sick after taking my chewable vitamins this morning, and my Protein Shake. So last night i was wondering if my body just needed something more solid, I figured that I would feel sick either way, so I had some very well cooked ramen noodles and broth. I felt SO much better!! :thumbup:My tummy stopped threatening to puke and my headaches went away. i am wondering if this is my body telling me that it is time to go to mushies. Anyone got advice??:confused2:

i strongly advise against progressing on your own. if you are having problems sticking to the liquids only, call your surgeon and see if they can suggest anything.

the post op diet is there to ensure your sutures heal properly and your band 'anchors' into place.

I agree. If you are having problems following your doctor's orders, you need to call your dietician and/or surgeon and let them know. Making up the program on your own could be risky. The liquids to mushies is for the purpose of slowly allowing post-op healing to take place.

Also in my case I was told to steer clear of Pasta and rice as they tend to ball up and can get stuck in the band opening. Please don't continue this without checking with your doctor. The fact that you are not feeling well may be a symptom and your doctor and dietician need to know.

I agree with the others, definitely call your doctor. I have heard many people say they called their doctors and their doctors allowed them to move up a level in the diet. However, you want professional advice instead of just winging it. The goal is for the band to heal in place properly for now.

My doctor allows you to start having mushys after 3 days of clear liquid. I hate instant oatmeal, but started to make maybe 1/2 package of it once in a while. I have scrambled eggs (yes plural 2) for Breakfast.

I was banded 7/9.

I do have to stay on mushys a whole month. You cant have chicken unless its been shredded and then you need to add liquid, or mayo, can just have it by itself, liquidified for all chicken or fish.

My dr allowed mushies after day 8 if I could keep the test meal (scrambled egg)down. I did, so now I am eating scrambled eggs, sf pudding, and tuna salad (very finely chopped). I think each surgeon is different. I am doing fine so far on this, but definitely stick with what your dr says. Good Luck! Call, maybe he will feel you are ready to move on.

Be careful of Ramen noodles. If you have high blood pressure they are very high in sodium. I agree check with your doctor before doing anything off schedule. Good luck and congratulations on your band. I am waiting for my surgery date.

Hi. I was banded on 7/10 and I only had to wait 3 days for mushies also. I'm really careful when trying new things but if you talk to your Dr. he may let you start transitioning early! Worth a try...

Sounds like you needed some sodium. I am supposed to be on liquids for one more week but saw the surgeon on Monday. He told me that I could have anything that could be pureed. He suggested I take broth and anything the family is eating, like fish, and puree them together to make my own Soup. I am going to try that tonight and see if I feel more satisfied.

Thanks for your replies everyone. I think I will stick to the full liquids and see how I am in a couple more days. If I still feel sick then I will call my surgeon. I drink the ramen without the noodles, I have never had high blood pressure so I don't think the sodium will be a problem.

Excellent choice. Like the others have already mentioned, there is a very important reason for the post-op diet. And, it doesn't matter what anyone else has done, it doesn't matter what anyone else's doctor does; it only matters what your doctor says you can do.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
