I am also new to the internet(blonde hairdresser) so I hope to figure this thing out. I am excited about this process, but nervous about vommitting. Any advice I would appreciate. My starting weight was243 and I have lost 14 lbs so far.

Congrats on getting banded. I work in Warren Co. which is why this caught my eye. I only tried to vomit twice. Well, I didn't intentionally try it but my body wanted to. It didn't hurt anything but if you vomit often, then call the surgeon. If you have any questions feel free to email me. email is randy@sidefx.org. what surgeon did your band if you don't mind me asking?

You're well on your way already Deb. I'd say just make sure to stick with the diet and you'll do great. Don't hesitate to call the doctor if you feel anything weird either. Do you have any questions or concerns?

just really a lot of mixed emotions. The Bariatric Center in Springboro is where I started and their insurance person told me she didn't think I would be approved, but I decided to at least try and see what would happen. Then that center closed and I had to move to the Miami Valley Center. So starting out thinking I wouldn't be approved or would at least have a hard fight, to all of a sudden being told OK your date is September 9th, I have a lot of thoughts running though my head... And I am just trying to wrap my mind around the whole thing. Don't get me wrong I really do want this, more than anything, and did a lot and I mean a lot of research into lap bands but now that I have the OK... I can't explain it... I am so happy and excited but at the same time I am eating everything in site and what if I have it and gain all of the weight back... Are these feelings and fears normal?

Yes they are very normal Deb. I was worried about how I was going to stick to it too. But you really have to get your mind ready for this. The lapband isn't the end-all answer to weight loss. You really have to do a lot of work yourself. At first after surgery, you really don't have an appetite. At least I didn't. Yogurt and such can get really old but you have to have a strong mind. But if you're dedicated enough to get this far into the process then your mind is already strong enough to do what you have to do. Once you are all healed up, you will get cravings here and there for things. No one is perfect. I've cheated a couple of times. But as long as you stay on the diet that your surgeon and nurses give you you'll do fine. There are plenty of different recipes for shakes and smoothies you can make to help get some more flavor and Protein in your diet. If you don't have a blender, buy one. It will be your best friend. lol Just start now by lowering the amounts you eat and eating better foods so you are ready after surgery. Once you stop eating all those greasy foods and such, you won't want to eat them anymore b/c you feel so much better mentally and physically. I can't tell you how much better I feel now that I don't eat as much fast food and fattening foods. It's amazing what I can do in the gym now. So just start now on getting ready for the diet. That way your mind is where it has to be. Remember, it's all mental. Once you fix that, you're good to go! Feel free to email me whenever you have a question or concern. I'll be glad to help you with whatever you need. My email is randy@sidefx.org.

Hi, my name is Leah. I live in Lebanon, Ohio. I just finished my nutrition, exercise, and mental health evaluation today. Does anyone have any advice as to what I should expect? Dr. Kerlakian will be doing my band.

Any advice, or if you can share your stories I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,

Leah

Hi, I'm Sarah. I'm being banded August 17th by Dr. Curry in Cinci. I live in Frankin (just west of Springboro). Good to know there are people close that are going through the same thing!

I just found out that I was approved for my procedure. I go to Dr. Kerlakian's office next Wednesday to meet with the dietician, the nurse, and Dr. Kerlakian. I'm so excited! What all should I expect at this apt?

Thanks,

Leah

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
