My surgeon insisted I have all the fluid removed before I had surgery a few months ago, then added it back gradually. It might depend on the type of surgery you're having, however - mine was abdominal and he was concerned that nausea/vomiting from anesthesia or just from a PB might damage the stitches. I would ask ASAP/
