Im so mad at myself I wanna cry

So I have been on a diet for the last like 3 weeks. Eating healthy and protiens first veggies second and only healthy carbs last. Cut out all sugar and starchy carbs. I am practicing for my band as I thought I would have it by now. I have done sooooo good! I really convinced myself that this was a life change I had made. That I was gonna do great with my band and eat the right way! Then it happend. A sugar craving.........I tried everything. I went to the fidge and ate a half chicken breast. That way if I was hungry the craving would go away. But no. So I waited 15 min and had carrot sticks. They r kinda sweet so maybe that would do it. No. Finally I tried a sugar free cookie. NO! It was still there. Then I did it..........I pulled out the poptarts, put them in the toaster oven and ate them both. I was mad even as I was doing it. I took the first bite hoping it wouldnt be that good so maybe I would throw it away. OMG! It was soooooooooooooooooo good. The frosting, the filling, the startchy dough. I ate them both. Then I looked at what I had done. 70 carbs, 450 calories. That is like almost half my calories for tomarro and 3 days of carbs...........**sighs** I mean I might as well had not dieted at all this week. I blew a week of dieting for one stupid sugar craving. It was stronger than me. I did every behavior modification I could think of before I caved and all it did was make me eat that much more (chicken and carrots and sugar free cookie) PLUSS the pop tart. I really feel like a failure. Like I will never be stronger than my urges no matter what stupid behavior changes I try to make. They didnt work. ;)

I didn't have a chance to read through all the replies so this may be a repeat but...

The wonderful thing about the band is that you can still have a poptart if you so chose. No, not everyday but once in a while it's fine. You're not expected to give up anything...

The next wonderful thing is... you ate two this time. With the band and the proper restriction you MIGHT be able to eat one and that is it.

Hang in there... don't give in to the "I already blew it so might as well just give up".... you are succeeding already and the band will help you with continued success without so much of the struggle of portions.

Hugs,

First of all, good for you for trying to eat well before your get your band. I know alot of people do the whole "last meal" syndrome thing and eat everything in site. I didn't diet before I was banded but I cut out carbonation and things like that, just to be ready.

Maybe your low carb diet is TOO low? They say that when a person craves something it's because the body feels it needs it (probably not true for chocolate, but hey). Maybe you had way too few carbs that day and your body wanted them?

I would suggest keeping some popsicles in the freezer. I keep the sugar free kind in mine, but even the sugar ones are only like 80 calories, or 15 if you get the otter pops. They are great for sweet cravings, and if you get the individually wrapped ones (not the 2 together) it's easy to have some portion control. I eat SF fudgesicles for chocolate cravings. I also have SF popsicles and SF creamsicles, so I have some variety, but they are 'safe'. I think I would say to you that you need to give yourself something, maybe not daily, but probably weekly, as a treat or you are going to feel deprived, and deprivation is a dangerous thing. If you think you can, maybe get some of those 100calorie packs that are out. They have oreo crisps and mini chips ahoy Cookies. Do you think you could keep those in the house and eat one pack when a craving hit? Then you'd have some real sugar, but it's a relatively safe snack because it's packaged in a serving (as apposed to a big bag of cookies, or 2 poptarts together when they could just do 1).

Anyhow, I probably got my point across. You are doing great! Wednesday was Wednesday, and that Wednesday can never come back, so you just gotta move forward, right?

U guys kick ass.... Ur all great. I got right back on track after my slip. Im still a little disapointed, but I have been doing better than I ever had before, so I really know I need to take it easy on my critisizm twords myself. I have a tendency to be too hard on myself. But the support was great and helped me get back on track, instead of giving up. So its been two days since then and Im going strong. Thanks again everyone.

Bandit-

I know this post of the poptarts is now a few days ago, but I wanted to thank you & tell you I understand your plight exactly. I was to start my two week pre-op diet yesterday. Well My back has been out for nearly a week- & The drugs make me super sea sick- can't spell nausious-lol

Anyhow- so i ate bready things all day & week - including yesterday to help the tummy out. Today I was gun-hoe on starting & found the samore-poptarts in the cupboard-THE ONLY THINK I HAD YET TO THROW AWAY. Well needless to say that was breakfast - but I did throw the rest in the disposal.

So yes- I can understand how mad we can get at ourselves - But remember this (food Thing) we do is an addiction! Just like alcohol or drugs- Its HARD to QUIT & takes commitment & Time. So Be good to yourself. I know I am going to be- I am proud that shit went down the drain & you should be happy your actually dieting prior to getting your band date! That is awesome- GOOD FOR YOU!

Temptation is a great weakness. Just have to be strong, but that one time didnt ruin anything. When you want to eat those sweet things, try to replace it with something sugar free!!! I know that could be hard as heck to do.
