I've got an Op date!

Recommended Posts

I too am being banded in august but my date is 19th, I have to do Optifast, but i have decided that i will do tony ferguson, i find it a little easier, as i will have shake for Breakfast, then lunch what i do is make up the Soup, they are like cup of soup packets, and they come in all diff flavours, cream of chicken, field mushroom, and another curry one that is nice, the only one i didnt like is the pumpkin, anyway as you are allowed 2 cups of veg a day, what i do is have the soup, i make it up in the cup like a cup of soup, then i get a mix of fresh broccoli, cauli and zucchini, just enough to make it a cup quantity, then nuke it in the microwave in a a container for 3 mins, with out any Water added, so it keeps just the nutrients from the vegetables . when they are cooked to my liking, i then sprinkle them with a little spice i usually use a chilli based one, and then pour over the vegetables the hot soup that you have made up, it is actually very satisfying, and i find that if i do this for lunch and dinner i am only having the recommenede quantities, but not feeling so deprived.

That sounds great, bindi! I might go trawling my local shops for Tony Ferguson today. I did alright actually on the Optifast, that is, I managed to get all the way to bed time without snapping my DH's head off. This morning I've woken up without feeling hungry and I think that's a great step forward.

I am also below 95kgs now, which I suspect is me losing even more water!

Having done 3 versions of shake Meal Replacement diets, I know the 3 day thing! It takes a couple of days for the body to detox from all the crappy carbs we usually eat, sugar, white flour products, etc. Once they've been cleaned out of our system we actually feel much better. Often finding we are satisfied on less and feel more energised and clear-minded. I've read that these sorts of starchy carbs are actually an addiction, and I tend to believe it.

Hope the shake diet is going well. You don't only have to add coffee, you can also get coconut and pineapple essences and make it a pinacolada flavour if you like. You can add strawberry essence or mint or mint and choc! banana, rum and chocky, anything you want really.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
