July Butterflies Master Thread

DEgirl, so sorry to hear about your health problems big:girl_hug: thoughts and prayers are with you dailey. I'm getting hungry alot sooner also, I'm calling about a fill today.

Thanks kimaly! It's okay, God obviously trusts me (I only wish he didn't trust me so much:-).

I called today and I go in on the 1st. I'm not sure if I will end up with a fill or not, but I sure hope so. My rumbling tummy less than an hour after I ate in staff meeting is rather embarrassing:thumbdown:

I'm so glad I found this July Thread. It's also nice to know there are people out their near my age (59 in June).

I got my band on July 24th. I had no problems after the surgery. The Protein Drinks were ucky, but I made it through it. It's nice to have real food once again.

Dr. Livingston at UT Southwestern in Dallas did my surgery. I had my first doctor visit on Monday and they did my surgery the following Thursday. I don't know why I got to skip all the pre-op stuff. I feel I missed a lot of useful info I should have had, but I was glad I got it done so fast. I've lost 25lbs. so far and had my 1st fill on Sept. 15. My band already had 2cc and they just added .6.

I sometimes feel I get food stuck in my throat, I try to chew everything to mush, but sometimes it really hurts. It doesn't happen often but when it does it hurts like heck. Any suggestions?

Good luck to all July banders out there.

I have the same problem with severe pain in my chest between my breast if I eat too fast, too big a bite, or too much. I had my 2nd fill yesterday and am on liquids for 24 hrs. I do not think I will schedule another for at least 4 wks. I lost 6 lbs between the 1st and 2nd fill and I want to be able to eat enough to keep me healthy. But I agree, the pain is intense when you do not eat properly.

Yeah, and when you get that pain and start sliming......do not drink fluids! It adds insult to injury. I just did it about an hour ago. :girl_hug:

Sorry to be a bummer but I think of you guys as my family.

I jost lost my job today.

I can't beleive it I was with my comapny for 7 years and today 45mins before I left for the day they let my whole depatment go. This totally sucks. Now I have to find a job that will let me go and get my fills or find something early enough in the day that it won't matter.

And besides that my husband works for a company that is not doing well and they will most likely let people go.

My insurance did not pay for the lap band so I was self pay now I have to find away to pay all that debt off.

This so sucks I just want to bury myself in chocolate and margaritas.

I feel like crying:crying:

Anybody got any encouraging words?

I'm so sorry. I know it's hard when we're in the thick of stress like this, but take time to care for yourself. This too will pass. I know it sounds trite, but it will. I'm sending cyber hugs your way.

I can empathize with you. The company I worked for closed the department I worked in back in 2000. At the time, I needed colon surgery so I had to pay for a Cobra plan. It is a shock to your life. You have youth on your side. Take one day at a time. Try to be mindful of your eating habits. I turned to food and that is when I piled on the lbs. I will be praying for you to find a job even better than the one you had. We are here for you.

And for everyone - isn't this much harder than you thought. I guess I was kidding myself that the band was the miracle. I knew it wasn't, but I guess I didn't believe it. Now I do.

I second that! I have been gaining and losing the same 3-4 lbs for the past month. I got my 3rd fill this past Tuesday and am hoping it will help. I do have more restriction than with my first 2 fills but as some of the others have noted, the feeling I get isn't the feeling of being full or even satisfied, but more that of feeling slightly stuck after about a 1/2 cup of food. I feel hungry again a couple of hours later but in any case, I am eating less than I was before my 3rd fill. Now I have 4 ccs in an 8 cc band.

I evacuated to San Antonio on the 11th the day before Ike hit and came back on the 18th when my neighbors reported that the power was back in our neighborhood. I've just been really busy trying to get things back to normal since then.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
