Several of us appear to have been banded on the same day, 6/18/08 so it was suggested, and I agree, it would be nice to have a thread just for us to keep each other posted on our progress and issues. So I thought I would get the ball rolling.

I am back to normal activity and doing great. I kayaked 4 hours today and I'm ready to try riding my horse tomorrow. I feel great and things appear to be healing right along. Exercise and sex have not been a problem either

I still have not been back on the scales since 6/22, still have no idea where my daughter hid them and I like it that way. I see the doc Wednesday for my follow-up and will see how things are progressing then.. I'll try not to be disappointed if I have gained some of my pre and post surgery weight back.

So if you were banded on or around 6/18 chime in and let us know how you are doing and what been going on with your body.

Please count me in!

I was banded 6/24/08. Not quite as far along as you are in the healing process, please don't tell my dh about sex . Not ready for that just yet.

I have to admit until today I was fairly miserable. I had two hernias repaired so I'm not sure if that is why or if its just me. The last few days experienced a lot of nausea and gas pain. Today I feel like I'm going to be human again

Would love to share this journey with a few others.

6/18 here. I started my pre-op diet 6/10 @ 343lbs, weighed in before surgery @ 328lbs, 1st follow-up on 6/24 weighed in @ 318lbs. I've been doing about 20 minutes a day on the eliptical followed by another 10 - 20 minutes on the treadmill or recumbent bike since the day after my 1st follow-up skipping a day here or there.(missed 2 days so far) I'm only weighing at the surgeons office for consistency because every scale at the hospital where I work is a little different. Hope all are doing well.

Welcome Luu. Okay I'll keep the sex on the down low. You have had other issues with the hernias and nausea. I have not had any nausea thus far so I'm very happy for that. I happy you are feeling better today though! Keep us posted.

Welcom James. Sounds like you are doing great! I need to pick it up some on my exercise. Are you doing any weight resistance training yet? I know it's critical to add that into our workout routine so we can build that much needed muscle so we can burn more of our fat while at rest. I have a total gym at home that I use for my weight resistance training. I'm only doing about 15 minues of cardio (stationary bike) and 10 minutes of weight resistance. I need to work up slowly to at least 30 minutes of each.

The 3 weeks between getting approved and surgery I hit the weights hard and heavy, I actually gained 5lbs maintaining the same cardio workout and diet. I'm going to start lightly adding the weights back after 2 weeks post op.

I was also banded on 6/18. I feel pretty good considering, it started a lil rough for me. I have felt restriction since surgery. My surgery day weight 250lbs my weight today 241 lbs. I am just starting mushies. I've had a lil mashed potatoes, and yogurt so far and all went down ok. I go for my first fill on 7/22. NOt sure if I will need it at this point. My port incision is not completely healed yet.

Exercise- been walking (not a whole lot I am healing from two surgeries and energy is at an all time low) Sat- walked the mall and Sun 30 min on the elecptical, I feel good while doing it but that is all of the energy that I have for the remainder of the day.

I have been on liquids for 2 months because of my jaw surgery. I am scheduled to return to work on 7/14, I am a lil nervous because of my energy level, hopefully, I can get more nutrients from food and not all of the supplements that I currently take.

Well that is my story, overall, I feel pretty good.

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
