Do fills hurt? What is the process?

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

I am in the process of working to get banded and have a question.

Does it hurt when you get a fill and how do they do it? Are you hospitalized?

Thanks!

Pamela.

Hi Pamela! Welcome to LBT!

You will probably get lots on answers on this one, since the process for getting a fill is a little diffrent with each surgeon. Each doctor has his own protocol for this small procedure. You may want to ask your surgeons office (or someone who uses this doctor) this question, this way you will have accurate information.

For me, I have recieved 2 fills only. Both times my surgeon accessed my port on the first try. Neither time did I feel it. Its a very small office visit/procedure, probably takes less then 5 minutes once the doctor enters the room.

My doctor does not use fluro for fills, nor does he give a anesthetic shot before the fill. Some doctors do, and this would require a little longer time in the office (maybe 30 minutes - 1 hour).

After the adjustment, my doctor requires us to sit in the waiting area and drink a little Water to make sure we are not over filled. If everything goes down fine - we are free to leave.

This is my experience only!

Hope this helps.

I just had my first fill and it was painless. It took about 2 minutes from start to finish. This is the last thing to worry about.

The only thing that I had that was uncomfortable was duirng my very first fill. My doctor removes al lthe air from your tubing with the needle, it was uncomfortable, it felt like i was having a heart attack, like an elephant was sitting on my chest. He does this to make sure all of the air is gone so when he gives you a fill he is very accurate. It is only for the first fill and I must say he has been right on the money with all of my fills. What he puts in, it all comes out during my next fill, he told me if air is left in the tubing it will give a flase read of your fill level. Other then that little bit, it is no big deal, however I do not like the feeling when he closes of my throat completely and I have to drink the yucky barium, but it only lasts for about 30 seconds.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
