Well . . . . how much have you lost? You sound so happy and cheerfull - I've been reading about the poor lady named Lori - who has had so much trouble - then to read your happy message is a trip. I'm not banded yet, hope to be soon. I'm 65, does anyone know anyone that old who has had the band?

Hi J.S. Welcome to LBT

Congratulatiuons on your new band! Sounds like things are going good so far by the tone of your post. Who did your surgery? Where do you live? Hows the weight loss going so far?

Dixie, to answer your question I do believe there is a member here who is 62 who has the band. Her name is Sharbythesea, if you do a member search and send her a PM I am sure she will be happy to answer any questions you might have. Her and I were banded by the same Dr.

Best of luck to both of you :)

My surgery was done by Dr. Chiang in Brookfield, WI. He is a great doc. So far the weight loss is very acceptable to me. I seem to be dropping a pound or so a day (granted I have been just on liquids all this time). I started at 290 and as of yesterday morning my weight was 264 (That includes a two week preop liquid diet). I am very happy with those results. I also know that now I am starting the mushie foods, some of that is likely to come back but that is okay. I go for my first fill on May 17.

Welcome js! You and I share the same band date, April 8th! I had a rough start due to swelling and not being able to get my fluids in but I'm doing better. I lost 15lbs in the first 12 days and have kept it off, even though I am eating more than in the beginning.

Glad to hear you are doing well!

Hey Dixie, I know of another lady, I'm pretty sure she's older than you, who was recently banded...It's HarleyNana's mother. Not sure if she's on the board but HarleyNana would also be glad to talk with you, I'm sure. Do what La Madam said and PM her, too. Welcome!

Hey JS are you from Brookfield? My Husband grew up there. He went to Brookfield Central, class of 1982..... Even grew up on a street named after his family. Mierow Lane.

Just wondering....

Glad to hear you are doing so well with your band. I get mine on Thursday...I can hardly wait!!

No I am not from Brookfield, I live in a neighboring town. Brookfield is only about 20 minutes away from my house tho. Congrats on your upcoming surgery!

Thanks for the info. Yes I've been snoopin' and readin' EVERYONE'S quotes to learn all I can, so I do know about HarleyNana's mom. :)

What a great support group in this forum! My daughter & I are checking out 2nd and last Dr on the 5th and will make a decision at that time on who to use for our surgery. I just read an obit of a former neighbor who was 2 years younger than me - I'm sure it was her weight that killed her - I'm more determined than ever to shed my health problems for good!

Thanks all,

Dixie - Dallas:banana :banana

Hi JS -

Congratulations on becoming a bander neighbor (I live in Chicago). I too am scheduled to take this road in June (awaiting insurance approval). Could you post a copy of your pre-op & post-op diet plans? I'm very curious and a little nervous.

Lynn,

HI! I have family that lives in Il. too. I am not sure I know how to post a copy of my preop and post op diet plans. I can tell you tho, I had to be on a liquid protien diet for two weeks (three liquid meals per day) , then Clear liquids for 3 days. Then I had surgery. Then I was Clear Liquids for a week postop, two weeks full liquids (which was my liquid protien drink, and things like blender Soup and yogurt with no chunks and pudding. Now I just started my mushy stage on saturday. Soft foods put into the blender and sorta shredded up. This thursday I will find out more as I have to see my diet lady. I hope that helped you.

Thanks J.S.

That helps a lot. What kind of liquids & Clear Liquids did you select 3 times per day and in what volumes? i.e. did you consume 8oz 3 times per day or maybe 4 oz. of apple juice, or cranberry juice - what liquids did you actually consume during the 2 week pre-op phase. Did your doctor give you a list to follow? I'm just worried about what I should do to get prepared. I'm trying to schedule my surgery the week of June 27th - but I'm not even out of the starting gate (I still have to meet with the surgeon, get all preliminary testing done, and obtain insurance approval). I guess I'm just trying to prepare myself and get a plan in place so there will be no "hiccups" in the process.

Thanks again for responding to my question, I really appreciate it.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
