Feelings of choking?

Recommended Posts

Hi, it's me here with more questions...

After you're banded but not filled, when you swallowing your liquids - do you ever feel like you're going to choke?

How bout when you're filled?

I've read about PBs, does this feel like vomiting, or is it more like whatever you swallow, slides back up into your mouth?

In general, I avoid vomiting at all costs, like I know most people do not like to vomit - but I HATE vomiting. I vomit with such force, I hurt for days after. I pop little capillaries in my face and eyes - it's so horrid. I'm talking like a tummy bug or morning sickness, whatever. I hope there isn't any vomiting like that?? Is there?

There are going to be lots of questions from me, ones that only people that have had this done will know - so I apologize in advance. :)

I just got banded 2 days ago, and I haven't vomitted...yet! Man, I felt horrible when I awoke from the anestesia...I was about to vomit, but I was so tight I just couldn't vomit! I thought That was it!!! For sure my band would slip, but nothing happened. I'm following the doctor's every advice, and I'm not risking it. That experience was enough for me. Sorry I don't have much experience with this.

I was banded about 1 1/2 weeks ago - feel great! First three days for me were the hardest but nothing I wasn't expecting. Hurt in the port site and it was hard to lay down in the bed, but I did, I was just sure to take my pain meds every 4 hours to keep it at bay. Port site is still sore today but nothing that needs pain meds.

Never had the feeling to vomit or choke and by day two I was sucking down all my luiqids with no problem!

Good Luck! :)

ps - just had puree' tuna fish with lite mayo and relish YUM YUM and VERY FILLING!!!!

i was banded on 04/21/08 and just received my 2nd fill today. i'm still learning how to eat properly so i have experienced PB'ing. like Jack said, it isn't like vomiting when you're sick. the stomach doesn't spasm or anything like that. i gag once and the piece of stuck food comes out and it's over.

try not to focus on the PB'ing. start now... before your surgery... learning how to eat slowly and listening to your body's signs of fullness!

If it makes you feel better, I've been banded for a year and 3 months, and I have not ever vomited or PB'd. Not one time. I've been very careful about my fills not to get too tight. If you chew carefully and you don't try to get your band as tight as you can tolerate it, you may not ever have those problems. Of course some people do anyway, but it's not really the norm. It seems most people have it happen just a few times and they learn to slow down their eating, or not eat a particular thing that didn't go down.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
