Surgery soon

Recommended Posts

After months of dealing with the refusal to pay, my insurance company has FINALLY come through! Last week I went for my psyc eval and then got my approval letter via fax the day after... (If I'd known that's all it took I could have visited the psyc sooner!) Last Thursday the nurse at the Wt Mgmt Group told me that the doctor's schedule was booked pretty heavy and it would most likely be the end of May. (I'm working on a pretty tight schedule at that point since my insurance is changing June 1st!) Well, I got the call Monday letting me know that my surgery had been scheduled and it would be May 4th! That's next week... I wasn't quite expecting that! After all this time waiting, now I'm starting to get those jitters. Not because of the surgery but because of the "unknown". Can anybody give me some input on what to expect the day of, the day after, the days immediately following? I'm going today for my pre op testing and I'm sure they'll answer some of my questions but I'd feel better knowing it is coming from people who have actually been through it.

Thanks a bunch and good luck to all you out there who've been waiting, and waiting, and .....

Keep your fingers crossed and your eyes focused!

Well done litn bug!! Way to go on your patience with the ins company! Wow...next week!

Don't freak out yet. You will be sore, tired, but fine and needing to take small sips of Fluid the first day after. let the swelling go down in your stomach and you'll be on track for healing nicely! I needed a good week to quit feeling generally funky, but some folks get a burst of energy after a few days. I am approaching week 3 now...my belly is tender in the port area, but it doesn't hurt. My energy level is fine, and I have lost about 15 lbs! You'll do fine.

Who's your doc? Where's your surgery? OH! Add your name to the May Bandsters list under the Support Forum...scroll down, it's there. Congratulations!!

Wow, litn_bug, that is quick! I hope the jitters don't get the best of you; you've clearly been working on this a long time and it's finally here! :)

Be prepared for the immediate post-op period of pain, soreness, tiredness and possible questioning. It happens to everyone! But each day out from about day 3 will see marked improvement in the way you feel and before long you will have completely forgotten about the discomfort and distress. And you'll be banded!

Good luck, and please let us know how it goes! :)

Thanks guys! I went today for my pre-op testings and I feel better about it. I guess I just have the same concerns you've all had before the actual date. I've enjoyed reading everyone's journey over the past several months. I've seen alot of people who were starting in September at the same time I started trying to get mine... most all of them have already gone through it and are at point where they've become somewhat comfortable with their bands and eating. I'm using their experiences as my comfort food!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
