Finally.....Banded today

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I thought I might let you all know how my banding went, and it was good. I went about 10:20a m and I was supposed to be there at 10:00....bad girl...he he he he! Well they had me to wait about 3.5 hours so I didn't feel bad about being late. But it gave me time to think about it and I got my nerves all tied up in a knot. The first nurse wasn't the friendliest person so I am sure that had something to do with it. And they forgot to get a urine sample so after not having a thing to drink since 12 am ..... I had to find some yellow lemonade from deep within myself. Well they wheeled me away and when I got to the OP room .... I reallllly got nervous. The only thing, I remember is, "What kind of drink would you like?" So, I said a martini please, and she said it was coming right up, and I was out! LOL, so when I woke up I wanted my damn martini!!!! LOL, that's the first thing I mentioned. Other than asking if my liver was ok....I was really concerned about the size of my liver even though I didn't cheat at all. I felt like getting up and walking while in recovery so as soon as I was transported back to my room, I walked. Because the gas was unbelievable but it subsided pretty quick and it's just shifting around right now. But it's not so unbearable just uncomfortable. Well, I feel pretty good with a mild pain. I went to Target to get my just born today neice a little something and walked around just fine. At least in my mind but the stares I got let me know I look like a patient of some sort. But I was walking to get back in the spirit of myself as soon as possible. After Target I went to the hospital where they were and I still felt all good. The only thing I have a problem with is getting up from a seat and that's just because of the incisions. I was so freaked out before surgery during all the anticipation and it's really not bad at all. At least not with out pain medication......Oh I tried to eat a Jello cup and I didn't finish it when before I would eat two just because I love them. But it just wasn't possible, sure it's because of the swelling right now. But I did find it pretty easy to eat slow and I have alway been a fast eater. I hope I can keep the same momentum with all foods I eat as I did with the Jello. Sorry it's so long but I just wanted any pre-banders to know......There's nothing worry about!!!!!

congratulations!

Thank you so much for taking the time to post. Not only did you have surgery but you accomplished so much on top of surgery! You are a regular wonder woman.....and you gave the people shopping in Target something to talk about.

Glad things went so well. That is always the nicest stories to read....although personally I don't know if I could have dug so deep for that sample!

I'm glad you fel so well, but the mom in me is going to say, please don't overdue it. You might feel it tomorrow if you do too much today. I have not been banded yet, but have had other things done to my body over the years. Please feel free to email me and let me know how you (and your new neice) are doing. I would love to make a new friend.

Congrats on the banding! I hope my surgery goes as well as yours when the time comes. I too am worried about the size of my liver. I'm starting now to make sure I eat right (lots of Protein with little to no carbs). So far I'm doing good. You are an inspiration to me. Keep up the good work!

Glad to hear things went so well. I agree that when you have to wait for things like that it just makes your nerves go crazy!

Congratulations! Please take it easy! When they tell you not to lift anything over 10 lbs for 4-6 weeks they mean it. My surgery went great, I was up and around that day but it finally caught up with me on day 3. I actually had an afternoon nap! Too much too soon isn't good. Remember, this is real surgery, with real incisions, real stitches and maybe some real bruising. You did this for you...love yourself just alittle while longer and pamper yourself! you earned it!

Yes I did take it easy....

The day after surgery, I tried to get up for a couple of hours and mingle with the family but I didn't feel too well. I think I was trying to do to much to soon. So I laid back down and slept till about 6pm, and then went for a walk around the block, and as soon as I got back. (get ready for TMI) I had my frist bowel movement, and I felt like I was going to die. I broke out in a hot sweat, and wanted to run from the toilet area. But I took it like a champ and it was smooth sailing. I finally passed some gas and was able to lie down and go back to sleep. Now on my third day, I went to the hospital and visited with my sister in law, and now back in the bed. But there is something thats bothering me. Yesterday, my mom told me to, "get up right now and go walking and stop laying around." Well when I walked in from going to visit my sister in law she said, ""Moving around any better today?" , and mocked how I had been walking around. So I had to at that point give her a piece of my mind. I was appalled, because she has had her share of surgeries and I was there for her like no other. For three days post surgery, I think I am doing pretty damn good! Just had to rant!

I'm glad you are doing ok. I had to go out of town for a little while and there is no internet there. You are not alone with the mom thing. My mom has been that way to me for years. Just do what you need to for yourself. Rest is you friend as well as walking. Take the walks when you can and get the rest when your body tells you it needs it. Keep your chin up and listen to what your body tells you it needs. I can't wait to hear when you reach your first goal for weight loss.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
