I am scheduled to have my surgery on July 9th. Of those who have had the surgery, how much did you lose pre-op? post op? and at what rate?

I lost 24 lbs preop and the rest post op. My rate has varied depending on how motivated I am at a particular time. i.e. after about the first 18 months, I started slacking a bit and then stalled with emotional eating issues during a stressful time.

Right now I'm losing at 1-2 lbs a week, steadily. Overall it only comes out to barely over a half pound a week if you average it out. But I'm not complaining -- I feel like I'm doing great even if it's taking a long time!!

Good luck on your surgery!

I did one week of pre-op dieting and lost 6 lbs and it has been 10 days since surgery and I've only lost 2 more lbs. My BMI is 31.7 to give perspective. I keep reading how much people have lost, and so fast. Everyone is different I keep reminding myself :-)

I lost 17 pounds pre-op. It took me about 5 weeks to lose that on a 1,000 calorie a day diet. I didn't exercise much due to my obesity.

Post-op I've lost 13 pounds. I was banded May 13th. I have been exercising more now.

I was on a liquid diet for 10 days pre-surgery and lost 10 lbs.

The rest came off since then. See sig for details.

I lost 12 pounds on the 10 day pre-op diet and have lost 8 since surgery (4/25). I have had one fill and go back next week for another one.

I didn't have to do a preop diet, so I didn't lose any before surgery. I had my surgery on 5/22 and I have lost 8 pounds in a little over a week. I just started exercising today, so I am hoping that helps.

I had a long stretch between my very first appointment with the surgeon till when I was able to have the surgery. I weighed in at 284 then GAINED 11 pounds till my pre-op diet started. lost those 11 plus 5 more on the liquid diet of two weeks. I do not count those 11 pounds I gained between my initial appointment till when I started my pre-op diet so I say I lost 51 pounds in total but really, it was closer to 62,

I lost from 330 to the low 270's long before I even thought about Lap-band surgery. I then yo-yo'd between that and the low 280's for a long time, years even! That's what made me think about it, as I was worried I would do that forever and I had so much more weight to lose.

I went back down to the low 270's for my consultations with the surgeon but gained back ten from the moment I got my surgery date. I ate everything for fear of never being able to again. My surgeon did not require any type of pre-op diet.

Try not to do this! It only hurts you by adding weight to lose in the end. If you use your band properly you will still be able to eat most of your favorite foods (just much less per serving) with the exception of a few, but everyone's different as to what those are. Mine is mostly breads and pastas and dense meat, but I can really live without those!

Lilmiss, I did the same thing. I binged really bad before surgery. Now I wish I hadn't because it only added to how much I have to lose now.

Missrach, my surgeon didn't have me do a pre-op diet, and I did gain 3 or 4 pounds before the surgery. It's been almost 3 months since surgery, and I've lost 45 pounds as of this morning. I think I'm losing 2-3 pounds a week now. Good luck!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
