Happy Me,

After researching the Dr.'s that I have to choose from, I am leaning towards Dr. Carcamo, who I understand is very good. I believe he has offices with True Results and the Nix. I have also heard good things about Dr. Sonny Cavazos with Texas Bariatrics is also highly recommended. Good luck on finding a local physician.

If you can, why not go to each seminar? I love Dr. Cavazos but I agree they both have true fans who post here. Since they are both good surgeons with good track records, pick the one you feel the best connection with!

I am considering the lap band and have been to the consultation with True Results in San Antonio. I want to have it done in the worst way, but researching all aspects before making my final decision. This is a big decision for many reasons, but since I am self pay I want to make sure it is right for me. For all those out there that are banded, do you have any regrets? Also, I see several have chosen Dr. Carcamo as their surgeon. Is he better than Dr. Wright or the others in that practice? I would love to have your input.

Dr. Carcamo and Dr. Wright are both in the OR at the same time when you have your surgery. They work together. You will only see the one that you chose when you go for your visits. Go to a seminar and see which one you prefer. I liked the fact that with them, one surgeon is assisting the other.

Yeah I loved that they worked together. I really liked the office staff there as well. Dr. Carcamo amd Dr. Wright are extremely nice and comforting as well.

I also went to Dr. Sonny Cavazos at NE Baptist. It has been a year now and he and his staff have been great. He is a skilled surgeon with a great way of explaining things so yo understand why you should follow instructions. He has a nurse practitioner in the office that is very knowledgable as well. I would recommend him to anyone. Being a nurse, I did a lot of checking before making the decision about who I would trust my body to.

Dr. C had me on liquids for a week, then to soft foods for 3 weeks. I did not have to do the long pre-op diet, so lost most of my weight in the months following surgery. It has been a year now and weight loss has slowed, but I am exercising 3 days a week at the Baptist HealthLink Gym and loving it. Had my 5th band fill last week. I am only at 4.5 ccs in a 10cc band, but this has worked well for me. I am halfway to my goal and cannot believe how much better I feel. Good luck and hang in there!

Dismit13, how much weight have you lost over the past year? I too am a nurse and have been researching the lap band for some time. I want to make sure I go into this with full knowledge of what to expect. Did you have a lot of weight to lose? Dr. C. has been recommended by several. I am scheduled to go for my physical with True Results next week, however, I might go ahead and schedule a consultation with Dr. C as well. I want to make sure I'm with the right Dr. Does he offer free fills for a year post op? What type of pre-op diet were you on? Thank you.

I too am a RN, and researched for over a year. I know nurses that work in the OR at various hospitals and asked them who they would choose. Several of my coworkers, nurses, went with Dr. Wright and Dr. Carcamo. You should ask around.

Hey guys I'm glad I found ya'll, I'm in San Antonio also. I had the band put on 12 Aug 08, and I'm feeling great!! I had it done at Wilford Hall Medical Center and have had two fills and lost about 63lbs so far. It's good to hear from folks from the same city.

I kind of did mine backwards.....I had a Tummy Tuck done about 3 1/2 years ago then I gained all the weight.....then I got lap band. My tummy is now flat again (Thank God). My surgeon was Dr. Gary Lawton. He is a great Dr. and have had many people I know use him for various surgeries and all of them have had nothing but GREAT results.

Michelle~ How is your journey coming along???

After having my last meeting with Dr.Carcamo, I cannot recommend him enough. I've come into this whole thing extremely nervous and he (along with all of the people on this board) have put me at ease. When we sat down to discuss the surgery and the insurance approval process he took control of the whole thing and told me EXACTLY what was going to happen, what his staff was gonna do and how soon I should be hearing from him about scheduling the surgery. I also did not have my EKG paperwork (which I did) so he just asked one of his nurses to do an EKG real quick. While I was in there he was setting up two computers for his nurses. And he kept joking with me while his nurse was setting up the EKG.

How is everyone else coming along!?

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
