Hello guys! I just need to have someone to talk to. Today is a low day, actually the past few weeks have been low. I have been doing really bad on this diet roller coaster that I am on. I haven't yet had my first fill and I feel like I am a failure. I am eating the way that I did before the surgery and I am hating it! I don't feel any different then I did before I had the band placed. I went for my 6 week check up and I actually gained 4 pds. I have lost 1 pd of the 4 but I think that its just because I have lost Water weight.

My first fill isn't until June 9th and I feel like I am starting to slip into a deep depression. I often think, what the heck did I do this for, I don't feel any different! Last night I actually signed up for weight watchers online! Then I cried thinking, ok I just went through all this pain of the surgery for what? To sign up for weight watchers! UGH!

I just need someone to tell me that they have been were I am right now and things will get better. I am so friggen frustrated! I have lost weight but most of it was before the surgery and right after, since a week or so after the surgery I haven't lost a thing...NOTHING! UGH

PLEASE HELP GUYS, I Need you now!

Thank you:confused2:

I am yet to be banded, but my sister has been for 3 years. I think we pin a ton of hope on surgery day, when the big stuff happens on fill day! Hang in, as of now you are really no better off than before surgery. Your "tool" has not be activated. Get ready! It's coming!

Heidi, Hang in there. I was banded on April 25th and initially lost 15 lbs pre op with Optifast and then when weighed at my post op appt had gained 5 of those lbs. This is a long journey and we have to remember this is a tool to assist us. It will get easier once you start getting fills. I have had one fill and I have noticed a difference. I have to eat slower and chew really well. Before the fill, I could eat anything and felt very discouraged. I finally came to realize though that this procedure is not the magic cure. I knew this in my head but still didn't really 'get it'. Now I know this is the truth. We have to work with the band. Give yourself time to adjust and don't be so hard on yourself. This is gonna take a while! I have not lost any more weight yet but my eating habits are slowly changing and the most important thing to me is that I have not gained any more weight. I have never maintained a weight loss for more than a minute! I am not dieting either. I eat Protein first then other stuff and I use a small plate instead of a dinner plate. I just started back at the gym too. I am only doing a 1/2 hour on the treadmill to start but that is good enough for now. Don't get discouraged, make small changes and give yourself time to adjust. Once you start getting fills, the volume will decrease. You are going do fine. Just work with the band as best you can for now and the rest will follow. All the best.

Its ok...hang in there. So you havent even had a fill yet? I have heard most people say that they havent had any restriction until they got a fill. It might take some time, but you will get to the point of restriction that you need and the weight will start coming off. Dont give up on the band yet.

Also, as a person who has dealt with depression I can tell you from experience that my eating habits and exercise play a HUGE role in my mental health. I know you dont want to hear "eat right and exercise." However, you really need to make an effort to get your diet on track and to try exercising....for your MENTAL HEALTH. Also, you might want to try counseling. I have found that it can be a great way to figure out WHY you are doing the things you are doing...such as your self-destructive eating.

Hang in there, I am sure you will have success with time. You just need to be pro-active in your health. YOU are the most important component in your health care team!

7_5_142.gifHello Heidi and Nikki, it is normal to eat like you did before surgury until you get filled. Then sometimes it takes more than your first fill to hit your sweet spot and loose the weight. Please keep your chins up it does get better. Heidi...why is your dr. waiting so long to fill you? I thought all drs done fills at 6 wks. unless you had some sort of problem? anyway good luck on ya'lls LB journey.

My doctor won't fill until 7 weeks because insurance won't pay until after 6 weeks. You'd think he could wrap that into his fee but apparently not. My surgery was on 5/5 and my fill isn't until 6/26. I wish it was now but I can eat a lot of mushie food!

What you are experiencing is normal given the fact you haven't had a fill yet. You will feel better once you start to get fills. Good luck.

Heidi I was there!! I cried all the time, I swore i was the only person on the planet for whom the band wouldn't work.

DO NOT PANIC

When you get the magic fill, and it can take up to 6 fills, you will know it without a doubt.

Until then, remind yourself it's a journey, forgive yourself, and try to pig out on salads and vegetables if you can't control your portions. Or try to do THAT more than "what you've always done."

Even controlling 2 out of 3 meals a day is better than giving up - and exercising daily, no matter how short or light, is even better.

Give yourself a chance! :frown:

hang in there

it really does get better, or maybe different

it took me 6 fills to get some restriction and I think I need another one. what you're going through they call "bandster hell" and everyone experiences it until they start on their journey of fills. Then everyone reacts differently and have to make adjustments in the amount of Fluid in the band to get more or less restriction.

Don't be so hard on yourself, I ate too much also while I was in bandster hell. I am counting calories still to help me stay in control. And exercise really does help.

believe me after a few fills you won't feel the same as you did before the band. you still have to stay on track and make the right food choices, but when you see the pounds melting away it's a great incentive.

Heidi

My Doc actually recommended that I combine WW with the band. I was banded 5/22 but don't have an appt for my first fill yet.

I'm sorry you are feeling so down. Some recommended counseling. You might want to give it a try. I started antidepressants a few months before my surgery and feel so much better now even though I am on the lowest dose.

I'm glad I found this blog , as I was sitting here, crying. I have been banded since May 20th, 9 days out, and on my 2nd day of a soft diet for 7 days. I got on that darn scale, and have gained 2 lbs since I started "eating". I'm going to my post op appt today. I usually don't eat Breakfast, or have an Atkins shake. Yesterday I didn't have anything, and then a lite lunch, at dinner, I felt bloated, so just drank sf fluids. I wonder if maybe I'm not eating enough, and my body is hanging onto every little calorie. I don't quite feel up to getting on the treadmill yet, I'm still pretty sore in the incision sites. Also, I'm afraid that if I eat, the weight of the food will weigh heavy in my lower stomach, causing dislocation of the band or tear the suture. I'm not hungry, no pangs. Reading that other ppl are also going thru this is helpful.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
