question about bread/hamburgers

Recommended Posts

doc told me no bread or rice. now i'm past the point of not being able to eat bread or rice. the question is: has anyone had a problem with eating a hamburger? i know i couldn't eat the whole thing, but would the bun be a problem??

It's really up to you... maybe you'll be able to, maybe not. I don't bother ordering 'em in restaurants anymore, cause I can't eat much of them, and they're no good to take home for leftovers. But at home I make them some times, and it doesn't matter if I have to throw out half.

I have found that I can't eat a hamburger with the bun. It's too bulky no matter how small of a bite I take or how much I chew it still gets stuck and hurts. I don't have a problem with the meat by itself though. I try not to eat stuff like that very often. I also CANNOT eat french fries at all, not even one! And I love fries! I have tried more than a few times to have them but it's not worth the uncomfortable feeling that accompanies them.

yeah...i agree with the fries comment. i ate 1/4 of one last night and got owned by it. i ate 3 small bites of my black bean burger before i realized that the fry blocked me....i had to burp it up.

i'm only 3 weeks out and sometimes it takes a while to learn what will work and what won't.

i'm getting better at it.

Each person is different, and each day is different. Some days I can eat a little bread and other days I can't take one bite. It's just a matter of trying it and see if you can or can't. Just because you can't eat something this week doesn't mean you can't next week. Don't be afraid to experiment with different foods but make sure you chew everything really well.

In my early days before I had much fill, I could eat part of a burger. The bun wasn't a problem for me. Mostly what I found is that burgers at places like McDonalds are pretty gross when you have to chew them so much. :) A home-grilled burger or one at a nice burger place like Red Robin is better, but these days I just go for a few bites of the meat.

Like someone else said, I rarely order a burger anymore because they don't make good leftovers and it's a waste to only be able to eat a couple bites. I just have a bite of DH's if I really want it, and order something more band friendly - or at least leftover-friendly.

I agree that whle a hamburger once in a while is nice it takes me a good hour to eat a medium size hamburger. Nothing worse than a cold hamburger.

I did know someone who would put a cheeseburger and milk in a blender but I could never bring myself to try it.

sometimes I can, sometimes I can't. My band is funny like that ...some foods are a always yes.....some are a damn new always NO......and some like hamburgers are occasional.....If it is an occasional day i can usually eat about a 1/4 of the burger....and then strangely out of the blue like every 3 months I will be able to eat the whole thing - and these are real burgers. Mind you it takes me an hour, but I enjoy every cholesterol full bite. It is a rare treat...i NEVER have fries though

I ate a cheeseburger at a picnic that I went to because there was nothing else that I wanted. It took forever for me to eat it and it was not really worth the work. I had been craving one and one was enough. I do longer have the desire for another one. If you are going to eat one with the bread I would recommend toasting the bun first.

I had my first hamburger from McDonalds 1 week post op. Never will I do that again!

A few months later I had one at home. Not going to do that anymore, either.

Recently I tried WhiteCastle burgers...you know how they are so small.

Nope!

Don't know what it is...but I slime up burgers.

I eat bread, rice, Pasta, and occasionally a burger with bun and fries. Never got any problem of being stuck or something like that (had 9 fills already). Of course I try avoinding all of those as much as possible, but occasionaly they won't harm me. I guess everyone is different and somedays we feel more restricted than others.

I can do burgers. I can't do those huge Buns though. They get stuck, so I take off the bun, and lo and behold it seems it's the meat I really enjoy anyway!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
