In memory of Denyell

Recommended Posts

My wife used to post on here as mom2bbb. Her name was Denyell Hooper. She had her surgery on March 31st 2008. She passed away on April 24th.

I want to start by saying so far there has been no link between the surgery and her death. Also I am not here to frighten anyone. This is sincerely not my intent but I feel I need to inform you of the conditions surrounding her death so if anyone here has these symptoms they will react quickly.

On the night of the 22nd of April my wife told me she thought she had an intestinal bug and she had some cramping on her left side. She said it was just mildly uncomfortable and she fell asleep. That next morning she said she wasn't feeling well and the cramping was about the same. she said she wanted to go home. (We were on vacation in New Hampshire) so I packed the truck and we went home. She had some diarrhea and she was throwing up about every 1/2 hour but so told me it wasn't too bad and she felt like she had a stomach bug. The red flag went up for me but she assured me it wasn't that bad. Well at 3:00 Am thursday morning she woke me up and said she didn't feel right and went to the hospital. By 7:30 Thursday night she was in Respiratory and Cardiac arrest. They revived her but needed to operate they lost her a second time on the table and could not revive her.

A couple of weeks later the ICU surgeon called me and said she died of Septic shock caused by an strep infection surrounding her abdominal cavity.

That is the latest info I have as of May 18th still waiting on the ME to give me a "legal" cause of death.

I am posting this to make everyone aware of the insidious symptoms surrounding her death. She never thought is was more than a bug and before Thursday morning said she didn't think she needed to go to the hospital.

Please, Please if you have any of these symptoms GO TO THE HOSPITAL!! The symptoms were mild and yet less than 48 hrs after they appeared she was gone.

I will update as I find out more.

Again this thread is not to upset anyone but to make people aware that the most mild of symptoms can be huge after this surgery especially if they are related in any way to abdominal function. Also HER DEATH HAS NOT BEEN RELATED TO THE SURGERY AS OF YET.

With a heavy heart,

HER LOVING HUSBAND

Peter Hooper

Wow, Peter thank you so much for sharing this information with us. It is a bit frightening going into my surgery next week. Your wife was a courageous woman and you should be so proud of her. I am amazed at your composure and rationality in not blaming her death on the surgery until there is sufficient evidence. My heart is with you and your family.

Peter, so sorry to hear of your wife's passing. Thank you for taking the time to inform us of her symptoms. So often I read posts from people that delay going to their dr. because they feel they might not be serious enough symptoms. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Peter I am so very sorry to hear of your loss, but like eveyone esle to thank you for thinking about others and finding the strength to let us know, as I know it must be very hard right now for you.

We sometimes tend to forget that ANY surgery can be dangerous but since it is somewhat rare for these things to happen we tend to forget they can.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
