Anyone pay out of pocket?

After reading quite a few of the threads on this board I see that there is a BMI requirement and/or co-morbidities needed to get approval from your insurance.

I don't think I'll qualify. I haven't called yet but plan to on Monday.

Anyone pay completely out of pocket? How much (if I can be so blunt)?

My BMI was low as well, but I had high BP, backaches, high cholesterol and other problems, so easy to OK my surgery. Didn't even try to go through my insurance, too much red tape. Cost was $13,600 which includes all visits and fills for a year (Salt Lake City, UT). I've lost 48 lbs. in about a year, but only 9 more to go. Very slow for me but I've carried this weight around for 30 years now, and enough was enough!

I had a BMI of 33 and paid $15,000 totally out of pocket. The results have been a little slower than I had hoped, but hopefully it will be worth it. My main concern is keeping the weight off after I lose it. I was tired of starting over. I say take out a loan and do it.
