No Fill Pain--financial or physical

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

My DH, Wayne had his first fill on Fri, 9/12/03. We searched and searched. Dr. Roger Laffoon in Russellville, AR did the fill. There was no problem finding the port, (said it was the easiest one he's done) and the charge was $131.00. He got a total of 2cc. They first tried 1.5cc but it was not enough so he put in another .5 and seems to have done the trick, we'll see. No numbing,,,,,No pain.

He had lost 32lbs since his surgery 8/02/03, and then gained 7 lbs back the 2 weeks before his fill, he was just hungry all the time and cheating like a mug!! lol

We were really impressed with Dr. Laffoon, he also does the surgery and the total price is very little more than some MX surgeons, $13,000....total, hospital and all,,,,that is with with no complications. We would have gone to him if we had known.

We drove 8 hrs for the fill, but it was a nice drive and I stopped by Tunica, MS and won $20.00 Yahoo, twenty big ones!

8 hours seems a long way to go for a $350 fill. since I moved 11 hours away from my surgeon and the local doc wanted $1400 for what he called a foreign band, I decided to do it myself and it has been the best move I have ever made aside from marring my wife of 35 years and of course getting banded in the first place. It costs me about $1.50 per fill takes about 1 minute and if I over fill or under fill, its easily corrected.I had gone almost 2 years of my three years banded without a fill and was beginning to gain some of my 90 lb. loss back but now I am back on track.

Hey Big Jim, Thanks for sharing about doing your own fill. I have heard of people doing this but I am wondering if you are willing to share about exactly how you go about it. I have always maintained that it is NOT brain surgery even though the docs try to treat it that way. I would be happy to hear from you either on this forum or privately. Thanks, trubleu

I have heard of people doing their own fills too and would love to hear more about how they do that. Amazing.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
