I'm not losing weight

Recommended Posts

I was banded on the 10th and in the first week lost 12 pounds. Now for over a week I haven't lost a damn thing. I tried increasing my food intake then decreasing and still nothing. Right now I eat a little less then 1,000 calories a day. Has anyone else stalled? Maybe I need a fill?

I was banded the 11th, and I am still losing, but the weight loss has slowed down. I think it takes time for your body to readjust. Are you able to exercise?

I too was banded on the 10th. Last week my weight loss was at a standstill. I even gained some - which freaked me out. This week it is dropping again. I increased my calories. I'm still on mushies and will be until my first fill (May 22nd). Remember we are still in the healing stage. From what I understand the weight will start coming off after your fill - right now there is no restriction. Hang in there - I know exactly how you feel!

I was banded 3 weeks ago. Before being banded they told us to expect a 1-2# loss per week. They also said not to expect to lose any weight the first month. Do not fret...the weight loss will show up. You may be losing inches and your body is adjusting to your new way of eating. DO NOT GET DISCOURAGED! Keep doing what your doctor has told you to do. Do not compare yourself with others. Every doctor does things a little different then others. Good luck!

I agree with Carol. You need to follow your doctors instructions. The only reason I increased my calories is because I wasn't eating enough (completely my fault), especially Protein, and needed to adjust my intake. Because of my self deprivasion my energy was way down, especially in the afternoons. Now that I'm back on track I feel better.

In my opinion, my body has to adjust to what it has gone through. I was easily eating 3000 caloires a day before my pre-surgery diet. Cutting that down to 500-600 made my body freak out. It is an adjustment time. It'll get better - for all of us. :coolgleamA:

Thank god this tread showed up. I was freaking this week. I had surgury 4/8 and lost 20 lbs in 2 weeks but the scale has not moved a bit in the past five. I have been on mushies and at most 800 cals per day. I know I am not getting enough Protein probably but the weight should still drop with the calorie differential. Glad to see I am not alone in my concerns.

I haven't stepped on a scale since the morning of surgery, a suggestion I picked up at a Lap-Band support group that I attend. What I am noticing is that my pants are getting baggy already and my blouses are roomier. Watching my clothes "grow" is much more rewarding for me than watching numbers on a scale.

Lots of good advice in here! I was told that the first 6 weeks is for healing ONLY! Any weight loss is a BONUS! You body is adjusting to all the changes. Right now you need nutrition more than anything else. Be sure you're getting enough to eat!

You're not alone...we're here with you!

I wish I hadn't stepped on my scale. The scale and I have a love/hate relationship right now. I'm sure my mutiple visits a day have affected that. It is an obsession, weighing myself. One I really need to step away from. I keep telling myself I'm only going to weigh on Thursdays, but I find myself on my scale every morning, torturing myself with every little ounce.

Northern Lady I truly commend you - I wish I could do that! Maybe I should hide the scale from myself?

Were you given any guidelines for after surgery of what to consume? I was told to make sure to consume 70g of Protein everyday. I'm not sure if you are, but try upping your protein, it may help.

I was told 60g of protein a day. And I get way more than that in. I was getting to much in so I cut back. I didn't realize how much I took in till I went on fitday.com one day took in 122g of protein.

Don't panic at all. What you are going through is all normal. I didnt' lose anything for 3 weeks a week after I got banded. Just don't give up and start eating crap food during that time. My weight loss is weird. I wont' lose anything for a week and then I'll lose 4 pounds the next week. But, when you get on solid foods you will stall big time. You might even gain some weight.. like 3-5 pounds or even more. This is totally normal. Some people even eat too few calories and this will stall you out too. When I didn't lose anything for three weeks I ate something bad.. a few chips and an enchilada and I lost 3 pounds within the next two days. It jolted my system back into weight loss mode. Then I started eating healthy again. But again, you guys just got banded this month... the weight loss right now doesn't really mean much, especially if you lost it on a liquid diet. I say all of this, but I freaked out too, so I've been where you all are. Trust me, it gets better and you will start to see the weight drop.

This is me, too...

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
