Thought I'd update - I took one that included my belly button - just to prove I really do have one. Its not a very clear pic, I had to use the mirror to take it. The other pretty much shows it like it is.

the brown around the scars is the dye from the stuff they use - I'm not bruised. But I am a little irratated from the tape.

wow StephC,

Thanks for posting the pics--they look very good! how are you feeling? was it better, worse, or the same as you expected it to be?

my operation is 1/8--my pre-op diet (or pre-surgery eating plan, as someone else called it) starts next tues!

what are you able to eat now? are you back to work yet?

i'm very interested in hearing how you're doing!

Here are my 2 day post op pics. I cannot believe I am sharing my hideously stretch marked belly (it has never been the same since my first pregnancy). It is also way more bloated than pre-surgery. It was actually starting to get smaller so I hope it returns to "normal" soon. I ended up with 7 incisions. One is so tiny I almost wouldn't count it. Overall I am pleased-they don't look too bad.

Okay, throwing my belly into the ring.

I'm nine days post op. I have seven incisions, a few are covered by bandaids because the scabs pull at my clothing. The bruising is ugly as all getout but its decreasing with time. I used to have bruising over the other larger one inch incision as well, but that was gone a few days ago. I'm a bruiser, I still have purple spots where I got my heparin injections after surgery!

* (By the way, the dark spot on the left upper side is a mole, not a scab.)<!-- attachments --><!-- attachments -->

Here I am, 8 months out. Not the most flattering photo, but I wanted to share. Believe it or not, there are really 5 scars. Oh...and that lump over there on my left/port (your right) side, is my port sticking out. It looks like I am going to have another surgery to get it embedded in my muscle so I won't suffer from erosion. But I am not pursuing that until after the new year.

looking good!

Girlinnyc - to answer your questions - I feel great! I was suprised at how horrible I felt the day of the surgery and then the 2nd day was tough - but by day 3 I was back to feeling semi-normal again. Coming out I had alot of restrictions, only able to drink about 1/4 cup at a time of Protein shakes, etc - but now almost 2 weeks out I am feeling hunger and want to eat - I start mushies on Sunday and I'm looking forward to it. If you want to talk PM me.

stephc--

i will look for you online! that's good to know that there is only a short time of feeling REALLY BAD--because that's all i'm obsessing about! not eating less or differently or having trouble swallowing meds or ANYTHING ELSE--just post-surgical pain!! :P

(i'm a chicken--squawk! squawk!)

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
