Will My Dr. suggested diet work?

Recommended Posts

I was banded four days ago and have been reading the posts for the past two days. My doctor only suggested a low carb diet the week prior to surgery. A liquid diet for 48 hr. then soft foods. I had a scrambled egg for Breakfast and Salmon tonight. I have lost 3lb. Has anyone else had such easy to follow instructions and had long term success with their band?

I don't know about long term, but I wanted to reassure you that the diets vary alot.

I was on normal food up until the surgery, then soft foods immediately afterwards. At my last weigh in (a week after surgery) I'd lost 5kg or 11lbs. It's portions more than anything, and I don't think you eat as much on solid-esque food because they fill you up quicker than liquids.

Hope this helps!

its amazing how different each doctors orders are.

I didn't have a pre-op diet, mainly because I didn't have any fatty liver issues.

some people are on Clear Liquids post op for weeks, others like you get to get solid foods right away.

I'm supposed to be on full liquids for the first 30 days, but I've "cheated" here and there just out of sheer hunger.

i've not had any vomiting at all luckily.

congrats on your "nice' diet..! good luck.

Yeah I agree, the diets all vary. My doc has me on a 600 cals daily, 64gm Protein daily, 15 carbs a meal, and 64oz Water daily. I think that is pretty strict, however I am following it and it is working. I am averaging three pounds a week and have not even been filled yet!

hi and welcome to LBT.

like it was already mentioned, doctor's pre/post op diets vary greatly, my only suggestion is to follow YOUR doctor's orders.

good luck.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
