I was banded in April 2008 by Fawzi Jadallah at Al Ali Hospital, Doha, Qatar.
I was at boarding school in the UK and had the surgery whilst visiting my parents for the holidays. I had adjustments when I was there on future trips. My family subsequently left Qatar and I found it nearly impossible to get aftercare in Britain.
As a result of a lack of aftercare, I suffered 18 months of acid reflux, towards the end of which I could not eat at all. My weight dropped to 133lbs (from initial 210lbs, but consistent goal weight had been 160lbs). This was due to my stomach having herniated through band. I had the band removed in an emergency operation after a week in hospital in the UK in September 2010
Having regained the weight, I have decided to be rebanded.
Initial weight: 210lbs
Target and maintained weight for 18months: 160lbs
Weight at time of emergency removal: 133lbs
Current weight: 205lbs
First appointment with The Hospital Group today, tentative surgery date of the 28th August given, subject to a barium swallow x-ray or possible endoscopy to check if there is any adesions from previous band.
