Getting Health Insurance After Being Band.

I am going to be band next month, but now I have run across a possible problem. I have a friend who was band last April and her company went to apply for health insurance and was denied her because she had lap-band surgery. I am a self pay and my company is looking for new health insurance but are waiting until I have my surgery and have some of my weight off, but if the insurance company(ies) are going to deny me coverage I'm not sure what to do. Has anyone else run across this problem or did you apply and it was not an issue. I am so confused!!!! What are your thoughts????

I know that some insurance wont cover "pre-existing conditions" and other have a 6 month to a year waiting period before they will treat your pre-existing conditions...my old boss ran into that problem when he was looking for insurance for the company, his wife has a "pre-existing condition" so he had to make sure the insurance he chose covered them

Are these small companies? I always thought that group plans have to cover pre-existing conditions.

It's crazy if that's not right -- I mean, my diabetes would not be covered? Yikes.

I could be wrong. Sometimes, I'm a little too optimistic :)
