Anyone wear skirts now but didn't before??

Recommended Posts

Silly question I know, I keep looking at skirts, put them in the cart and before I get to the check out put them back lol! I have never been a skirt wearer because I never felt good in them. I want to start wearing them but am still a little self conscious. I work in a male dominant industry and in the 7-8 years I have been there I have not worn one once... I can only imagine the comments I would get. :huh2: So, anyone start wearing them since weight loss??

I used to wear skirts all the time before surgery. I was approximately the same weight for year during high school and college and I was very used to it and how I looking in clothes. So I wore whatever I felt like and decided that it was important how I felt in what I worn, and not everyone had to enjoy it as much as I did.

But I've recently noticed a strange habit I've never had before. I'll try on clothes and I'll sometimes think, well maybe it'll look better in a few more pounds. It feels weird second guessing myself now that I'm loosing weight, when I really didn't do that before. I guess I'm just not used to my changing body.

Anyways, my philosophy on clothes is: if you like it and it's comfortable, you should wear it. :huh2:

I always wore suits and skirts to work so that isn't the change. Where the change for me has been is the style of clothes. I wear alot of short jackets - much better for a short person. I wear different styles of clothes, more fashionable.

Sometimes, I think I am playing Barbie when I am dressing up. Except for the fact that I didn't grow a chest or those long legs :huh2:.

Wear whatever you are comfortable in. You lost this weight for yourself so dress accordingly.

I never wore skirts at my biggest. Ever. I wear a skirt or dress at least 2 out of the 5 days I am at work each week. I wear them with tights, fishnets, boots, maryjanes, heels, anything! I must admit I get more "attention" on the days I wear skirts and not trousers though.

Oh god, to wear a skirt or a summer dress! *dreams* I can't sit comfortably with my knees together yet, and haven't been able to for years - not sure I even remember how! I've tried a few dresses but I look like a sausage tied up in the middle and SO uncomfortable when sitting. Can't wait for that NSV!!

I used to wear skirts all the time, but then when I got heavier I stopped bc they were too uncomfortable. I started to wear them again now and I love them!

Yep!!! Me too!!! I bought a mini skirt - I know i'm too old, but hear me out. I'm only 5'0" tall so it comes to the top of my knees - nothing mini about that

I have bought 3 dresses now. My DH wants me to dress down now, more casual, because he says he can't keep up with me (we work together).

Sadly not yet without my Gold Bond powder for my thunder thighs!! That will be one happy day when I actually can get rid of the 'friction'!!! I would love to wear a sundress also but I hate my arms! Only time will tell!!

You are NEVER too old for a miniskirt! If you feel sexy, no matter the age, do it! (I wouldn't wear a skimpy top with it though...sexy and hooker are two different things :-) )

Kelgirl68... I had to giggle about the gold bond. That's hysterical. I tried on a perky little polka dot sundress this past weekend. It had a little matching bolero type short sweater to go over it. I figured that would cover my mud flap arms. I actually got into a size 16!! It looked okay. But it's been 16 years since I'd worn one last. At age 48 I thought it looked stupid. Now I'm to old to wear them. Damn it.

I'd say take your best and most trusted friend shopping and try the skirts on for her and then let her pick out what she thinks is the cutest and buy it. Every time I clothes shop I do the same exact thing, chicken out before I pay. I took my friend with me last time and let her pick out the clothes and tried them on for her and let her decide. Then I just paid for them no questions no rethinking no putting back. Her style is a little louder than mine but I did have an amazing time in the outfit she picked for me. It is not always best for us to choose our own outfits because our self image devil is on our shoulder corrupting what we see in the mirror. Have a fun day make a date with your girl friend and let her decide. If she is a true friend she will not put you in something horrible and she will give you the courage to actually purchase the item.

I hated wearing skirts or dresses, before but I am now down to a size 14 and I love them. I just bought 3 new dresses, one ot wear to my cousins wedding and the others for vacation.

I love them and I have my figure back. I can't wait to get even smaller and really get sexy.

Nope! Not gonna happen here, nosireee. Aint no way, no how.

Seriously, spit in their eye and tell to buck up and take it like a man. Be proud of your accomplishment. You have bragging rights as much as the next person.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
