2 days post op and having doubts.

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am 3 days post surgery, and besides feeling like a mule has kicked my gut, I am doing pretty good. I listened to a lot of women the week before surgery and some had lossed a lot right after and some only a few ponds. My point to them and everyone else, YOU ARE LOOSING AND NOT GOING IN THE OTHER DIRECTION! This is a life changing process, but with support we will all make it.

*Hugs* Try to stay positive. This is the first surgery I've ever had and it was scary for me too. But, like others have said, once you get past the bad part (the liquid diet, the mushy diet, and the pain), it'll be worth it. You can do it! Just keep your head up and put one foot in front of the other, one day at a time.

Hang in there..I am 3 weeks post op and boy did I have the same thoughts the first few days after surgery. I cried for almost a week, but like the others said, one day you will wake up and say, ok, I did this, it is a good thing, let's do it! I thought I was the only one going through this phase and actually contacted my doctor...They told me the feelings were normal to just trust them...I did and some days are still hard when everyone around you is eating and you have "your food" you are allowed but again, just as everyone said, when others start noticing, hey you've lost weight, I just eat my mushies and say yes I have..thanks for noticing..Hang in there...We are all in this together...

As many have said in their replies. we all go through the doubt phase...It is normal. I was banded on 9/1/07 and weighed 252lbs. As of today(4/13/08) I have now met my first goal (under 200lbs) I now weigh 196lbs. I have had 2 adjustments and I can assure you. The journey is difficult but it is very satifying to hear people tell you that you look great.

I am on my 3rd day of being banded. I had my op friday 11th April. I'm fortunately not in much pain due to the slits in my tummy but I do have sharp bouts of gas every 5-10 minutes. I just breathe through them and wait for them to subside. I'm not feeling hungry and am forcing myself to eat a few teaspoons of yoghurt or Soup a couple of times a day.

JANABANANA- You're welcome to have my direct email address as we are similar ages and can be support for each other. Let me know and I can rivate message you :-)

Last night I was on the net looking into buying a canoe when I hit my goal. A canoe!!!!!!!!!! prior to the sugery I would have sunk the sucker.

JanaBanana, you hang in there, I had the EXACT same thing happen to me at 3 days post-op, banded 4/3/08. I am only 10 days out and feel so much better already. It's hard to come to terms with the fact that you can't just sit down and have a slice of apple pie while watching the game anymore, or go out to dinner with your family and friends (yet). It's a huge life style change and it takes time.

I felt exactly the way you did. I was hurting, couldn't figure out how much to eat, felt weird all the time and regretted the surgery...but I PROMISE it gets better! Once your surgery pain is gone and you're eating solid foods, that helps a whole lot!!! You will get to the point where you know what to eat and how much...that part just takes experimentation and getting used to. But 2 months ago I posted almost the same post that you did and I got floods of responses saying others felt the same way and that it gets better. It took about a month before I was getting to the point of being glad I did the surgery and now at 2 months I feel completely normal!

I felt the same way the day I came home from the hospital with the pain and gas. It is alot to adjust to but it is worth it! Hang in there...also I realized that the tylenol with codine was making me go crazy and feel worse so you might want to check your pain meds? That was my issue and once I figured it out the next day was great.

Thank you for sharing your experiences. I was banded on April 8th and today (April 14th) was still having regrets because I just don't feel normal on the inside of my body. You guys have put it into great prespective for me and I pray I feel the same in the next two weeks.

NeNe,

Me too, me too. I was banded on the 8th, and have been crying from the pain the past two days. Regrets are beginning to shine brightly and I know they shouldn't. I know I need to take the pain medicine, but since I am having a hard time even drinking, the thought of that nasty liquid pain reliever makes me debate which is worse. My stomach was swollen again this morning, and I don't know why!!!

Hoping this goes away soon...

Hi, I had surgery today, the pain from the surgery is fine, but I am trhrowing up air, the pain is horrible from the gas. I am pretty much pain tolerant, however, this gas pain is something else. I think that walking and the incline helps, this is my first day. I notice when I take the pain medicine it worsens as mommakatx2 said in another post. Hands over the head is working. The incision pain does not really hurt, I am thinking of not taking it until I am in really in pain.

You are right where you are suppose to be - don't rush it! Also remember since you are on full liquids the full sensation is not the same now as it will be once you are on solids and have some fills. Right now your belly is swollen which makes the band tight, and of course you are sore! Take it easy, relax and take this time to set up some minnie goals for yourself. Maybe like tomorrow your goal is to walk for 15 minutes and maybe by weeks end your goal can be to get in some ztra fluids.....set yourself up for success and you will do well!

Hey guy and gals,

The best advice I could give (7 days post-op) is go drink as much as you can. Take the pain meds and let you body relax. I know its hard because it has been hard for me, but I can say that each day I get up I have a little more mobility, a little less pain, and I can drink a little more. At first I thought I just had to get what they said into me (that was impossible) so I just did what I could. Today, being the 7th day after surgery I am feeling better. I am still having difficulty, but I really do feel better. I am starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

This particular thread has been so beneficial to me because before I read it from the beginning, I could not understand what I am going through. Thanks for your all who participated from the beginning and giving me so hope.

I HATED my band when I got it. To tell you the truth it took a good 2 weeks to start to get used to it. I was like "What the hell did I do". I went through food withdrawal and was quite frustrated. The gas pain was horrible, I pulled the muscle around my port (as if the surgery pain was bad enough) and I had the runs because all I could do was drink.

Where am I going with this????

I am now down 42 pounds. I am so thankful to everyone that has helped me and I thank God everyday that I have this band. It is the best decision I have ever made to save my life and change my way of eating, and thinking. I got my surgery in November. I am down 6 sizes, off the sleep apnea machine, off the metformin (pre-diabetes meds), and I am off all inhalers.

Take it day-by-day. You will feel better every day you wake up, and every day you are getting healthier, and as a plus, thinner.

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
