Curves vs. Aquafit - opinions?

Recommended Posts

I've done Curves and Water aerobics. My vote is for Water aerobics. I got toned FAST and the weight kept coming off (I had hit a plateau).

Curves was great, but the hours never worked well for me and there was never a spot in the parking lot, which translated into there wasn't a spot available in "the circle".

This thread has renewed my desire to get into water aerobics again. I'm off to call my local Y!

Yay I'm glad to hear another positive response about water aerobics and that you found them good.

I'm excited to give it a shot too! I will post after I've done my first drop in visit (waiting for TOM to be gone as that just doesn't sound like fun during... lol)

I fully agree that you should find something that you like. Remember that no exercise in and of itself is going to "make" you exercise. We all have to find the motivation. Going to Curves for three weeks in your year membership is probably less about curves and more about you and what you want. I know that people on the thread have had negative things to say about Curves. However, I have been on both sides with the dedication to my workout. For the first year, it was great. I had friends to workout with which made a huge difference than later on when I had no one. I went a lot less then. I found the encouragement from the staff at my weigh and measures wonderfully reinforcing. I loved the muscle tone I gained from using the equipment properly (working to muscle failure). It really made a difference for me. I lost more than 50 lbs. There were women there who had WLS and no one criticised them. In fact, they were encourged and celebrated for the amount of wt they lost. There are so many factors that can add to one's experience being good or bad. I say, the workout is great and to my surprise, I was getting an aerobic workout while going there. I thought it was missing until my husband and I went to Six Flags with friends of ours. I know my BMI was the highest and I blew past them when climbing the hills with no huffing and puffing. It was fantastic!!!!! I did get bored after a year and started doing nothing which coupled with a lapse in eating judgement lead to me regaining the lost wt. What ever workout you choose is only going to work if you work it. Take care. :D

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
