You are LOOSING your minds.

That really annoys me too.

Come on people. Loose is what our clothes will be when we LOSE weight.

I feel so much better getting that off my chest.

Sorry Snowbird...I'm addicted to elipses...If it's any consolation, that's how I speak, as well.

I dont' know, which do you think is more annoying?

  1. This Sentence is.
  2. THIS SENTENCE IS.
  3. this sentence is
  4. This sentence is.

glitter-cute-120786046992071.gif

So yeah, I guess give me something that's text-based any day...

This sentence is what?

^_^

... annoying - except #3 of course, cause unless i'm on my iphone, i dont capitalize ...

I'm semi-new to LBT but not new to forums in general.

What is really irritating is trying to read through one long run-on sentence, poor capitalization, poor spelling, and no paragraphs!

The no paragraphs are the worst as they are difficult to read.

We have spell check, use it for goodness sake.

Punctuation is good.

I've come across quite a few posts that are long with poor spelling, punctuation and no paragraphs. They've been very hard to read. I hope I'm not alone in my thinking here. I'd just like to know when a thought ends and another one begins!

Thank you for letting me rant, I'm done now.

Ok, we'll submit your application for the GPF, Grammar Police Force. It consists mostly of people whose aspirations included being english teachers , but didn't ever make it. My DW is the head of the group.

I Have A Hard Time With Sentences Like This.

That's the one that gets me too. I find it harder to read than all caps. Does anyone know HOW that happens, because I find it hard to believe that so many people are actually typing a capital at the beginning of each word. It seems more like it is some kind of software problem, but I can't think what software would do that.

I just appreicate a period at an end of a thought. Also new paragraphs. It just makes it easier to read.

Spelling errors eh, I can deal with.

As long as I can figure out what people are trying to say, it doesn't really bother me too much. That said, there are some people's posts, though, that just make me want to smack them upside the head and send them back to school. Rightfully or not, I think people judge other people based on how they present themselves, whether online or in real life. First impressions, and all that. And since the way we converse on this site is through text, I would think that people would want to make their posts as easily read and understood as possible. I'm a speed reader, so all or first-letter capitalization, lack of punctuation, and really long paragraphs can really throw me off. I know it's not the nicest thing I could do, but if I run across a post that's difficult for me to read, I just skip it entirely and don't bother trying to decipher it.

are you kidding me? if you dont like reading it, move on to the next thread.

some people do the best they can. some people have very limited writing skills. some people don't take themselves and others so seriously that they let paragraphs, caps, and dots bother them.

for all of you that had fun with this thread...hats off to ya!! it is a mistake to condemn those who don't write as well as others, but i don't think anyone will be hurt at poking a little good natured fun.

English teacher here (real one, not just aspiring!!! ) and I have to say that I couldn't care less how people spell or phrase their sentences on a message board. If a post is littered with misspellings or is so grammatically incorrect I can't understand it, I am apt to hit my back arrow, but it doesn't necessarily bug me.

I am also an ellipses user while typing online. It is easier than figuring out commas. How's that for lazy?

The things that bug me are colored print, all caps and too many lines in a row without a single break.

Oh...and the glitter things at the bottom of the pages are slightly obnoxious as well.

What's a ellipses ???

This is comming from one of the people who misspell - drop words - and my grammer sucks - but heck I'm not in school anymore - and this isn't a proffessional writing class message board - and I think most can understand what I am saying and i do make paragraphs

I am surprised at this post. First of all, you should go back and read your posts. There are many grammical errors in all them. When I post, I do run on sentenses, make spelling mistakes etc. That is because one, I am just quickly answering a question or concern of a fellow bandster and not really worrying about spelling, punctuation, grammar, etc. I didn't know the posts were being graded. Some are pretty bad, but I don't feel it is my place to judge someone's ability to write or type. Some people may not even be from the US or have a limited education. People come here to ask questions, not be judged. Don't you think we have had enough of that just with our weight? I am sure many of us, who can write better and spell better, could take the time to do better, but that isn't why I answer a post. I answer posts to help someone with a band question, that's it. Sorry if anything I write is not proper and to your liking - but it wasn't meant for you anyway - it was meant for the person who asked for assistance. We all have pet peeves - believe me. One of mine is people complaining over really silly things, but I would never post a thread about it. I would just move on to what does interest me. Oh, another thing - don't know if any of you have a dyslexic child - maybe this is where my understanding comes from. My son has a severe reading/writing delay - no fault of his own. He brings home A's and B's - but he struggles to get them. So, I would never judge or form an opinion about anyone else. Never know who has what, ya know..........................Good luck on your lapband journey!

Oh....but, in essence, isn't that what you just did?

I don't think there is any real malice behind the original and subsequent posts. I think it was just getting something off of one's chest.

Have a good day and good luck on your journey as well.

An ellipses is the three dots people use in their writing to indicate an omitted word or phrase. I use it almost like a comma or period.

I love you for making paragraphs!!! I agree about the school thing...(ellipsis)that's why I don't get irritated on the board when people write poorly. I do, however, have an issue with restaurants etc. who have grammatical or spelling issues on signs outside of their restaurants. Drives me NUTS!

Take care,

Rain

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
